Symantec does not have lousy protection, their home products (norton antivirus) are just bloated and consume more resources than some of their competitors. Detection rate for Symantec's antivirus products are good, not as good as Kaspersky, but good.

Yeah I know.... Its amazing how people with no clue like to comment. Norton is actually one of the best in terms of protection. Go try to read some reviews and test sites. It has a very high detection rate like NOD32 and Kaspersky. It is in the top contenders when it comes to detection in case you didnt know that. It is just known for bogging down the system more than others. That is their only flaw, which is the reason I do not use it anymore. It is still a good prog. Ive used norton for a long time before I tried Kaspersky or nod32. I only like kaspersky better because of its low resource use.

Lol, i wonder who their advertisers are?

Not to be contentious with those who like NAV, cuz if it's good for you, then more power to ya, but it really boils down to simple math. Who do Hackers target to infect the most PCs they can w/ their B.S.? The software that most folks use i.e. MS, NAV, McCrapafee etc.

We haven't had any trouble whatsoever since switching to NOD32 and Kaspersy (1 each on 2 machines), while w/ NAV we were infected many times over the years, not to mention the added bonus of NOD32 and Kaspersky taking up far less system resources.

Any way you cut it, you can get NAV for free and now thanks to the OP Kaspersky for free. Kaspersky takes up far less system resources, and that makes this a Hot Deal.

Hmmm, maybe they are OS, i ordered yesterday and have my confirmation#, getting it tomorrow, just in time for another system build

AFAIK, you can use any competitive product for the second rebate.

EDIT...Here is the competitive rebate form, seems only Norton, Trend and McCrapafee qualify.

Amazon sits on the "Free super saver shipping" orders for a few days before they ship it most of the time.

I've never had that happen, maybe i've just been lucky?that would be bucking the trend.

Well, they probably just give people that pay extra for higher quality shipping priority over those who used the free shipping rather than sitting on it.

NOD32 I have heard very good things about it. If you use it how do you like it and if you have used kaspersky how do they compare? I know NOD32 is completely backwards compatable with all MS OS's. I also believe it leaves the smallest footprint and uses the least resources and is possibly the fastest but I was told this information so it could be just hype.

I've used NOD32 and AOL active shield, which is based off Kaspersky.
Between the two, NOD32 is smaller, not that Kaspersky is a hog. I'd just use whichever is cheaper, because they are both quality anti-viruses.

They are both excellent. NOD32 takes up slightly less system resources (very slightly), Kaspersky has a slightly higher detection rate (again, very slightly) I personally prefer NOD32, but use Kaspersky w/out hesitation as well.

EDIT......BTW, i received my copy yesterday via FedEx supersaver , 3 days, not bad

They arnt even shipping mine off till this Monday and I ordered on the 6th.

Anyways, NOD3 supposedly doesnt have the best interface. I guess a little more complicated to configure, at least according to a few reviews ive read. Thats why many recommend Kaspersky to nod32. Although Ive never actually used it. My brother uses Nod32, I like kaspersky myself. To be honest, I always tend to use whatever I can get for FREE after rebates. Thats why I used to use norton for so long, Ive always gotten that every year for free AR. But after trying Kaspersky, no way ill ever go back. Either way, NOD32 and Kaspersky have close to identical detection rates up close to 100%.

It should also be noted that Kaspersky has the best response time to new threats in the industry, hourly updates. But, you also have to think about who you trust more with your security, the Russians or Slovakia, although I think that it is a non issue.

I have an extra Norton System Works 2000 (which includes antivirus so I assume it would work) manual, and I'd be happy to send page 1 to the first person who needs it for a rebate and sends me a SASE. PM for address

Looks like the Fry's rebates does not have as many restrictions on the competitors as the previous one from amazon.

but it doesn't seem to work for electronic purchases. My NOD32 license is about to expire, I was hping to be able to use that as a competitive upgrade.

Is there another AV product FAR with competitive upgrade? I'm not below buying both and sending each other's CD/manual page to qualify for the rebate

The Fry's B&M is indeed FAR (I was there yesterday) but one is a 25.00 MIR (I don't know if it's a competitive upgrade or not) and another 25.00 MIR when you buy it with tax software.

The Fry's.com shows a 50.00 MIR here but when you click on the link it shows 49.99 and reference to a 25.00MIR with any tax software but there isn't a link to the rebate.
