Antivirus question

Sorry if this has been asked before guys, but I couldn't find anything helpful through my searches. I am running a presario laptop, have a p4 2.8 processor, 1.5 gbs of ram, and I need a good antivirus. I have Norton Internet Security Center 06 installed, but I have 1 year activations for CA and AOL active virus shield. My DSL provider also provides mcafee for free, if i choose it. So, my question to you, is which should I be using? Norton seems to be very resource intense. And for whatever reason, since I installed it, I CAN NOT get my computer to restart. EVER. I have to manually turn it off. Any advice is appreciated, thank you.

scott, i dont THINK that schadenfroh would recommend AOL...

Please read his thread....i'd personnaly recommend NOD32, i always recommend NOD32 if resources/memory is an issue.

You could also give Kaspersky a try.

I had the same problem on my GF's dad's notebook recently, he had some "security" suite on his (btw. kicka$$) laptop...so i removed the whole suite and then installed NOD32. (or KAV, but KAV uses more resources)

I hate to ever recommend anything with "AOL" in it, but considering AOL's is basically Kaspersky and is free, I would recommend it.

ditto. I've been using it for a day or so instead of antivir and its great.

i must have been confused by his thread then. my lappie seems to me to be pretty powerful, although maybe not top of the line, certainly its pretty decent. i have no problems running any programs, its just norton feels like it bogs it down. i don't want to uninstall it and try something else just to find out its the same thing though, if that makes sense.

AntiVir and ZoneAlarm (for firewall) always make a good, free solution.

Norton makes a lot of systems feel bogged down. Use the AOL antivirus (since it is free for a year) or use McAfee (since you say you get it free from your ISP).

Both are much better than Symantec.

This AV topic is current, and you don't need to search.

Uninstall Norton using their removal tool.
