Ants DIE, Part ][ - The ants strike back

As I predicted in this thread, the ant invasion appears to be underway. This morning I awoke to an attack from behind the house. The ants had already established superiority over the patio and were working on claiming the main structure, large numbers of scouts had already penetrated the interior when I discovered them.

I believe this was in retaliation for my attack on their secret base over the weekend. I suffered some injuries in their attempt to defend that structure from my weedwacker of death, and in the end it was a draw... for I had to tend to the wounds. I should have followed-up with the chemical weaponry, but I waited too long.

Today they struck early and in large numbers, clearly an effort to take over our house... If I had slept in, I fear I may not be posting right now. Fortunately, I caught them early on and fought strongly with all available weapons. Here's their base I took some other pics of their full attack but they had anti-focus technology (apparently) and I was unable to get good closeups. Imagine thousands and thousands of fire ants crawling along the patio slider doors and you'll know the challenge I faced.

I won this round... but they will be back, oh yes, they WILL be back.

I suggest a flank attack from both sides with a "hydro" bomb. Once you cut off their base support, the rest will die. When you flush the queen out, make sure you kill her, otherwise, renforcments may be on their way.

First, make sure you have a digital video camera in your hand, if not that - at least a digicam. Then, proceed to pour gasoline or another highly flammable liquid on the base and drop a m-bomb (match) and redefine fire ant for them.

Disclaimer: if your house burns down, it's your fault, not mine.

Fire Ants are mean, nasty sons of bitches. I never knew just how bad they were until I was hanging out at a buddy's house, standing on the front lawn, downing a beer.

Suddenly, I felt pain. I look down at my right leg and my foot (I had sandals on) was COVERED in them and they were already up to my knee.

After swatting them all off and getting bit on the hands for my efforts, my leg swelled up and it became very difficult to breathe. I'm allergic to insect stings...but didn't know fire ants were "poisonious"; I know now.

Rushed to the hospital, they gave me some shots and I lived, obviously. Fear the Fire Ants, for they pack FIRE.

Pour gas on the little bastards and light'em up. Tell 'em MichaelD sent you.

They've been hit hard with multiple chemical weapons. The base is currently being washed out by mother nature... I feel safe, for the moment.

Ahh, but you must assume nothing. They may retaliate at any time! Be prepared!

Hydro never works. It looks great for the TV crowd, but those little red bastards are sneaky.

My suggestion is for an all out offensive.

First, chemical- ant juice and seven dust for the outside, liquid ant for the inside.
Then biological - grits mixed with molasses. Ants attracted to the molasses, eat it with the grits. Grits swell with fluids and the casue the ants to burst.

Carefull though, they may go for higher ground, I have found for temporary blockage from instects using petroleom jelly surrounding their initial base is effective at capturing some prisoners of war.

Question: Are they really fire ants?!

Suggestion: Have a group of highly trained commandos trained by Lee Marvin infiltrate the base at night (when they are least active) and kidnap the queen. Send out a ransom reuqest and see how they respond. Negotiations will be difficult (along the lines of Palestine vs Isreal), but doable.

Another suggestion: Call the exterminator or dig out your lawn.

Keep us informed!.........

Yes they are really fireants. In S.FL there is rarely any other type.

Sneak attack at night is futile.... these ants moved base during the night. At least in the day time I have a chance of spotting them before they attack...

<- Installing floodlights...

Where the hell did you all learn your anti-ant warfare tactics?!

The most effective countermeasure would be to infiltrate their headquarters and assassinate their leader.

Strategically air-drop chemically tainted food rations just within their borders. Under such camouflage, these rations should make their way back to the command center.

I think you can figure out the expected outcome from there...

When you have won the war, I may need to call you in as reinforcements on my housefront.

I also am looking for a volunteer corp that will help me in my 3 month battle against honey bees.

Diazinon has been banned, and is hard to find. I've used up my supply. But the 'new improved' stuff (forget the brand/chemical) from home depot has been applied. I also used a spray to kill off the invading army.... and the granuals were left as bait for the queen.

Fireants are near impossible to eliminate.

---

In laymans terms this is likely what happend:

1) I was mowing lawn over the weekend. Was weedwacking by A/C units when I managed to disrupt a hidden anthill covered by weeds. I didn't notice until I was on my way out of that area, and by then they had already inflicted a few wounds.

2) I tended to the wounds, but forgot to treat that mound. But, apparently I disrupted it enough that they packed up and moved shop a bit west to the edge of my patio. I think they worked on that the last few days. This morning, my automatic sprinker system went off...

3) After being disrupted by jets of water, the new mound had to once again search for a new home. Apparently my house seemed to be a good possibility... so they sent in the scouts to check it out.

Applied chemicals to outside of house, and granuals to the mound. I swept out / vacuumed up the invaders. I didn't see any survivors. Currently what's left of them has been washed out from the endless rain we have been getting since I posted this.

Just watch out for those aerial attacks, they like to launch the seige after rainfall, when their base is all but distroyed.
I suggest some sort of anti-air defense.

Do NOT use explosives. This has a high probability of sending the queen and any future queens flying around the yard only to start a new colony and PWN you hard.

Your best option is water with a liquid pesticide (You will need several bottles) being added in via one of those spray nozzles for plant food or whatever. Secure a 1-yard perimeter around the nest by wetting it down with this weapon, and slowly work your way in to the nest in concentric circles, ultimately focusing your attention on the nest. Those not outright drowned or crushed by the water pressure will be poisoned.

My current course of action against the ant menece is using 1 full cup of gunpowder where their line forms near my sidewalk at home. I cut them off with a quick spray of gasoline around the edges, cover the rest with gunpower, and light a match. Its like a tokyo firebombing all over again.

If that cannot happen, I usually go for the chemical weapons attack offered by my good friend raid.

Well..... I just bought a bag today from Menard's. They had a whole pallet of the granules, plus sprays and liquid forms of it. I think its being phased out, not outright banned.
