How do you get rid of them? (Besides cleaning, duh.) lol We have ants everywhere. In the last 30 minutes I've already cleaned the counters off twice. We have out ant stakes(SP?), but they are eating the poison like candy and coming back for more! :Q :| Any ideas??

we used to always have this problem but then the exterminator sprayed some stuff around the outside of our house and we no longer had ants in the house

Well, haze... You're so sweet, that the ants keep coming for you... You may have to move out, or call a exterminator...

If you really scrub the places where they are and the path that they are taking, it helps alot. At least you dont have a fly problem, those are worse. I always had a bunch of them in my old apartment in the summer time.

They are the Borg, resistance is futile....:|

Seriously, I do battle with them every summer. Usually because I haven't taken out the garbage
What are they after, water? Or are they the grease- and sweet-eating kind. I've found ant bait (liquid, a few drops on the trail) for the proper type of ants to be rather effective. Or if you can
find where they are coming in, spray outside.
Last resort, call the exterminator for a spray.

Good luck, you may need it!

WINDEX... make sure it has ammonia in it. It smells a little better than RAID or other poisons.

Ever seen "Joe's Apartment"? Like cockroaches, you have to come to an agreement with them. Pretty soon, they'll be your best friend.

Borax is it. I forget the exact mixture from rec.gardens, but if you mix it correctly with sugar water the little buggers won't die on the spot, they'll take it back to the nest to puke it out for others to consume(yummy). Suppose to work great. Good Luck Heather.

train a counter-army of ants with a few wasps for air support. They won't stand a chance.

1/2 Boric acid and 1/2 sugar. Boric acid can be found at some pharmacies, and the combo is far more toxic to ants than us mammal types

I think ants are fascinating.

Then again, I also think that the rate at which RAID kills them is fascinating too.

<< How do you get rid of them? >>

Mine always went away after the holidays. That's why my wife always makes two huge turkeys at Thanksgiving. Feed the uncles leftover turkey enough times and they go home taking the aunts with them. Easy!

We tried poison one time. They got too sick to drive and that was the opposite effect we wanted so no more poison. Yours seem to like it though...oh well.

I don't know what we're gonna do, but the borax idea sounds good. We may have some boric acid. So....tomorrow we'll work on the ants.

Hi, Tom. And....Know, eye kant speeel gud.

In the summer we always got really nasty ants at my house. If you want a decent do-it-yourself solution, go buy some of the ant traps that have TWO different types of food. Most of the traps out there are just sugar, but there's also a second type of food (I think it's protein, but I'm not positive). Ants generally eat one or the other, so sugar traps won't necessarily be effective on their own.

We placed about half a dozen of these double-whammy traps around the kitchen and it seemed to clear the problem right up. Good luck!

Borax is the way to go for teh sweet eating ants. You can buy some specifically for this purpose already mixed up. Its called Terro and its available at Lowe's or some other do it yourself place or maybe a lawn and garden place. Comes with small cardboard tearouts to put it in. Shouldnt cost more than 2 or 3 dollars.
