Hondas are very well known for their poor automatic transmissions. Get a manual - they're a lot better.

Talk about generalizations ...

Is that why they are among the top reliable auto makers?

Of course it's a generalization. Nice job, Sherlock. That doesn't mean it isn't true. It's just like people generalizing that recent VW/Audi cars have electrical issues.

Ask any respectable mechanic to speak about Honda problems and the first thing they'll mention is poor automatic transmissions in the V6 powered models

Edited for clarity. The 2003+ 5AT is particularily problematic. It remains to be seen if the 2006+ Civic will suffer this problem now that it has a 5AT. Hopefully the lack of a V6 will save it. (Although I'd love a V6 Civic. )

the 03+ is better than 98-02, afflicted V6 models only need an additional cooling jet added inside. The 03+ I4 is reliable. The I4 and V6 automatics are not related designs, V6 problems do not affect I4s.

For 07+ honda has redesigned autos in many V6 models, the trannies are 4 shafts now instead of the previous 3.

We have a 2002 Accord V6 in the family and it's a fine car. Driving highways is great on it, but if you're trying to bolt it, the engine feels laggy. If you try to gun it, you'll notice that your initial acceleration is slow while the RPM ramps up then you'll get this huge kick and you'll be on your way.

My dad has had a 1986 Nissan Truck since 1986, its still around and is a MUCH better car than my 98 Corolla, which has has its check engine light on, radio buttons break, both front inside handles break, driver side door doesnt open from inside anymore...too many problems
the truck is a 5-spd, and runs like a beauty

I had the 4 cylinders 1999 Accord for 5 years and have not had a problem with it after 100K miles. My wife drives the 4 Cylinders 5 speed 2000 accord coupe for last 6 years w/o any issue. They are nice and reliable car.

I think you mean the 06+. 2006 was the mid model refresh year for the accord.

I have a 98 V6 EX. Alternator failed at ~65K. Transmission acts funky sometimes, but hasnt needed work yet. I wont complain too much about it, but Im ready for a new car.

Ive got a 1998 4 door 4 cylinder manual transmission, and the only problem ive ever had was gunked up battery terminals. Cleaned that up and worked like a charm, owned this car for 3+ years. 120k+ miles.

The tranny in the accord is the same 03-07, 08 is redesign. For 07, supposedly the TL, MDX, odyssey got bigger/heavier ridgeline design 4 shaft transmissions.

I have an 02 4 cyl auto VP at 85k, and everything is still fine. I do wish I had bought a newer model to avoid the timing belt change.
