Why do you need the 9 series and onboard? The benefit would be 6gbps sata and usb 3.0, both of which you can get on an 880 board. The 9 series brings BD support, but I don't think many BD users will be needing onboard gpu.

I think AMDs thoughts were, BD+good xfire and Llano + good on-chip gpu

So if you are looking for a good onboard solution, pick up an FM1 system

1) Well... I am fed up with HD42xx graphics, want a step-up in this department.

2) I want to re-use an AM3 processor.

Hey, thanks for your suggestion. Due to power/heat reasons I need it to be onboard.

Anyhow, looks like I need to change platforms for this setup. Really wanted to know some insight info on the subject.

Some of the low profile cards are 20/30 watt if that helps.

For best low power solutions FM1 or LGA 1155 I3 2105 is HD3000 and can be undervolted to "T" specification

To answer the original question, YES.

AMD won't put any more R&D effort into video-on-the-chipset, it's all on the CPU die now. 880G is as good as it'll ever get.
Problem is, AMD on-die graphics is limited to FM1 at the moment.

w/ Intel, I am more flexible.

That's probably why no reseller has built any 980G boards, it's exactly the same as the 880G.

Probably aren't selling enough to justify the development of a new board.

AMD have been very silent with regards to their chipset roadmap. I am worried, slightly. Looks like AM3+ may as well be their last performance socket. FM2 is the way to go, you reckon?

I think the Focus is all going to be on FM2 and onboard (Edit- On die) graphics.

The days of high end AMD CPU's are most likely dead after AM3+ , which is sad, as I've supported AMD since the Win95 days.

Went Intel as price/performance on sandy is just too hard to pass up
