Any ACDsee users out there?

I'm not looking to compare ACDsee with other products. I want to hear what others are experiencing with ver6.0..... any crashes? and so forth.

I'm experiencing crashes on a regular basis- though if I keep the DB updated, and purged it seems to be more stable.

I use it at work to print out contact sheets (usually 6 pics per sheet) for the various projects we work on. Version 6 seems stable, but I feel like its bloated with all the eye candy and new interface.

Personally, I would like to go back to Version 5, since I only use the basic features and don't like the new interface.

Ver 5 was more stable for me than 6.. though I gotta admit that it may be the system I'm using it on. I need to install it on my new box and see if it's the hardware that's killing it versus the number of files I'm dealing with per directory ( sometimes mroe than 700). The last update seemed to make things much better though and that's why I've been assuming a software bug.

works well for me, except the awfully long starting time compared to how it was before they decided to implement a video player into the program

when it was just an image view it was the best thing ever, so fast and did just what you needed to do

I have no problems with it besides the more and more bloated nature of the program. I recon one more version ?upgrade? and it will become useless.

I like it. Been using ACDSee for years now, so i don't have any experience with any other programs. I only have the basic version, so it's only 13megs or so.

irfanview! well, almost.. it doesn't scroll through images like acdsee exactly... and there isn't a browse mode (i find it useful for moving images).

but only version 3.1 of acdsee is good.. has lossless rotation. if you didn't need that or resizing, classic is perfect.

The newest patch v6.0.3 reduced loading time significantly, you guys may want to try it. Crashes are still there though. I have both ACDSee v6 and Irfanview, both are extremely useful,

I'm a fan of Irfanview as well

glad to see I'm not the only one with frequent crashes.

I know this is an old thread, but didn't want to start a new one just to add that i'm still using ACDSee 4.0.1 and get crashes when I try to re-open a pic from within Agent that's already been saved. When do you get a crash?
How much slower is 6.0.3 than 4.x?

There is a lot more overhead with Ver6 then the older versions. Ver 5 had planty of overhead too. I've got 512 meg of ram in this box and I stll have a lot of drive activity for everything I do in the prog. I'm really only using it for basic image management, but tend to have problems mainly with directory's that have over 1000 images in them.... It crashes on another machine with ten times the power as well.

I find I get less crashes when I keep the database optimized, though sometimes that doesn't always hold true. Tends to crash when I try to switch to another folder when it's still reading the newly opened current folder.

Yup. They only suggested optimizing the DB, and it took them three weeks to respond.

Not a good sign. It's a great app, could be best in it's class if not for the crashes.
