Any advice on where to get free hd content

i want to try some hd on my many displays where can i get free movies/shows (ie not 2min clips )

Umm, are you asking where you can get (illegal) copies of movies to download and watch on your computer?

If you want to see HD, then the Tech Demo's that Microsoft has are more than enough.

I would suggest you edit your post immediately before you get this thread Locked and you get in trouble.

gametrailers.com has some nice 10-15 minute high def game reviews... not exactly tv but it is in high def.

it requires powergrid which takes a couple seconds to install. 'the 300' trailer and transformer trailer are particularly amazing. especially since it buffers in under 10 seconds for what is at least a 2 megabit stream.

TV shows aren't legal. Why do you think we pay a cable/satellite TV bill every month.

The Microsoft Tech Demos and the Gametrailers should be plenty for you to look at.

Last I checked, that is licensed by Fox Broadcasting Corp. A TV channel that you have to have Cable/Satellite to view. This is a moot point. Look at the video's we have pointed out to you (The Terminator one is pretty good ... Christanna Loken is pretty nice looking to say the least lol). If you want to download a Movie or a TV show you will have to do it on your own without our help.

Happily, there are selfless hobbyists who record such free over-the-air content and make it available for those who sadly lack the ability to receive it themselves (or can but cannot timeshift) but do have PC's capable of playback. Try bitorrent sites such as mininova, usenet hdtv groups and hdclips.net. If you really want to test for both performance and quality then look for streams of around 20Mbps. For reference, Apple movie trailers are half that at best but at least AVC, as opposed to ye olde timey MPEG-2 common to broadcasts in North America (EU more typically uses AVC).

Hmm, the meh bitrate will be atypical of good HD content (nevermind the production quality). But I suppose it is necessary to download some sample video of bikini clad models to confirm my hypothesis.

Look into "PLanet Earth 720p" on various websites

The quality will blow you away.

BBC's Planet Earth series is stunning. But for the best quality you'll want 1080i AVC/H.264, not MPEG-2 or recodes to XviD. Their Galapagos series is also good but not quite as.

its kind hard actually....MS and apple only have those few mins clips on there....those imax samples. You could also try P2P and maybe find some FREE/public domain movies on bittorrent if you're lucky.

There are also some hd forums out where people post when they spot HD movies...maybe someone has an URL because right now i dont. Google would always help.
