Tigerdirect has the worst support ever and even worse if you try using one of their rebates.

I dont count on rebates. If the price on TD or BH is the same or less on Amazon + tax, I'll buy from them instead of Amazon. I bought my Diskstation and expansion unit from BH. Saved me almost $150 in tax.

I'd move back to the Hanover, NH area in a minute.

No sales tax nor income tax. It all comes out of fees, which are high, but overall the tax burden is among the lowest, and it's beautiful. Cold in winter but that doesn't bother me and the changes of season is incredible.

NH natives have a nice bumper sticker "Welcome to New Hampshire, now go home"

Ugh. Five years there was waaaaay more than enough. Yuck. Holy crap does the weather there suck, and not just during winter.

Even with the addition of AZ sales tax on Amazon last year, I still find they are cheaper than any competitor on nearly everything I buy - including PC components, when compared to NewEgg. And Amazon's return policy is so much less frustrating.

I also like that through CamelCamelCamel I can see Amazon's pricing history for an item, and make my buying decision based on where it stands at the moment.

Newegg. I ordered a Core i3 and some Crucial memory today and Newegg didn't charge me tax, or shipping. Yes I opted for free shipping.

Amazon had better prices (by $2-$7) on those two items and would have shipped them free, but I wouldn't save enough there to make up for the tax they charge. Plus Amazon is sitting on orders for 4-5 days before shipping, and I brook no delay.

No one has mentioned eBay yet. It's amazing how you can get computer cables for a couple bucks or so (shipping included)--but the posters here would probably complain about 3-4 weeks for delivery from China.

true, ebay it is! I wonder how many % of people actually file a use tax here... or hell, it goes into a grey area when places do the "we pay the sales tax!" technically, they're only paying the sales tax, you're still suppose to pay the use tax.

how is shopblt.com?

was thinking about the 280x because they had it at near stock price but the shipping time was too much for me.

I wish Amazon would start charging me tax so I wouldn't have to punch in the info on the items I purchase throughout the year come tax season.

The problem with eBay is you have to use Paypal, and after awhile Paypal insists on your banking account info.

How did the price for memory compare with buying direct from crucial.com?

I was not aware that crucial.com sold memory. I checked just now and it's the exact same price as Amazon, not factoring in tax or shipping.

What I bought::
Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory (with Red/Green Light)

Are you being serious with this stuff? I can't tell. What if sales tax was 50%? Would you still be happily pay it because 'the gov says so'?

Lemme guess, you never go over the speed limit either...

If sales tax was 50%, I would be required by law to pay that. So, yes I would 'happily' pay it.

And no, I try to stay at the speed limit as much as possible.

Who are you to believe you are the authority on which laws are arbitrary enough to not follow? Should I be allowed to rob, steal, kill, rape, burglarize and otherwise harass just because I don't like that 'the gov says so'?

So, please do armchair lawyer me on why it is okay to not obey state tax laws and why it is okay to go over a posted limit of speed determined by less arbitrary means than 'me car go vroom and i best driver!".

Yeah, people. Don't forget, when you go overseas on vacation, and make purchases on tangible items, you are liable to pay a 'use tax' when you return to the good ol' US of A. Yes, you pay taxes on items out of this country also!

Probably because you have no ground to stand on.

While his reasoning is a little over the top, so was your example to begin with. There is a reason we're required to pay tax, whether you appreciate it or not. Arguing against someone paying their taxes is pretty stupid though.

Well, amazon killed my prime membership by charging tax for CA. Great, so I'll ship to my mom's in Vegas. Now they're also charging tax in Vegas as well.

Any alternative websites for purchasing pc parts?

You spend $30 worth of gas to avoid paying $8 in sales tax. And the drive probably negates the day or two you saved in shipping time anyway. So you're one of those people, huh?
