ahh were you running async before i assume?

that makes sense....

seriously though... i'm neve going to be happy with ram speed... i went from 2700 -> 3000 -> 3200 ....

i'm just thinking about making the jump to 3700 and not worry for a while about ram...

nah, i was running Dual DDR 100=2(Dual) x 2(DDR) x 100MHz=400MHz. i used the 6:3 ratio
checked banchmarks and DCDDR 333 came out higher

i have determined that trying to run my ram at 2226 causes me to up my vcore a WHOLE bunch

so the new 0310wpmw i got from pcsupplysource seems decent enough...

currently, i am testing it at 2.4 ghz = 12 x 200 using 2-3-3-6 rather than the 2-2-2-6

i found that by running at 2-3-3-6 i could lower my vcore from 1.875 to 1.8 (big difference huh?)

and my vdimm from 2.8 to 2.7

it's priming away... we'll see how it does...

i tried 11 x 222 = 2442 @ 1.9 volts but prime stopped after 3 hours....

i'm pretty sure at this point it's not a heat issue but a RAM issue...

it'll be interesting to see how this chip can do

so yeah.. running this thing at 1.8vcore has lowered my temps a whole bunch! so it's nice and if this thing can run 2.4 @ this voltage, i'm gonna have to sell off the upmw from my sig (UH OH... who's gonna call dibs???!!!???)

*drool* My JIUHB 0312XPMW is running 12.0 x 166 FSB at stock voltage , but my A7N8X Deluxe overvolts a little (.05v) so its actually at 1.65Vcore. I really want a rev 2.0 board though because it supposedly has the 1/6 divider that my 1.04 doesn't. Crap on a stick and feed it to a little child because my board is stable at 200 MHz FSB, but my wireless PCI card isn't :frown:....

[edit] I will be purchasing a 0310XPMW or WPMW (depends on how much I want to spend) maybe tomorrow or within a week. This means that I will have spent at least $150 on 3 CPUs in the past 2 weeks.... My "A" core does 1.83 GHz at 1.8 Vcore

Where did you get your t-bred B? By the looks of your week, it looks like googlegear, am I right.
I really don't want to pay the $80 - $90 to get a DLT3C from excalibur, i would be happy with 2250Mhz (2800+) from a $50 1700+.

I'm new to OC'ing and hope you guys can help me.

When given the choice between a higher CPU multiplier or a higher FSB, both resulting in the same CPU speed, which would you choose? Is there a general rule of thumb?

I'm thinking that once the max speed of the CPU is determined, use the lowest multiplier and highest FSB. Or, put another way, max out your ram using a really low multiplier then bring up the multipler as high as you can.

Example:

9.5*201=1909

is "better" than

11.5*166=1909

I'm using a 8RDA+ mobo so PCI/AGP timings aren't an issue (they are locked for PCI and can be set/locked for AGP).

higher FSB will result in higher bandwidth and higher bandwidth is always better.
but if your RAM can't cope when running sync(running the FSB and RAM at same speeds) and you're forced to run async(gives a little lower performance), then run with the higher multiplier

Ok, I'm starting my overclock.

xp1700 'B' week 0309 from gameve.com
RDA+ stepping A3 from newegg
512MB HyperX 2700

After installing win2k and updates, I jumped to 10x200. It's currently running that at default voltage. Been running 3dmark demo for an hour or so and everything is rock solid. Pretty good for the first overclock on this chip. I don't have the time at the moment, but later I'll test just how fast this chip will go.

I bought this CPU at a computer show in Dulles Expo center because there was a computer show in town for a weekend. Decided to make the best of it and bought an AXP 1700+ Tbred B 0312XPMW for $62 (including VA tax) as opposed to $80 for a 1700+ TBred B 0310 XPMW from this one guy at another stand...tried to rip me off :|

To Zuke: Try upping your multiplier because I have my XP 1700+ running 12.5x166 at stock voltage 140% stable

It's an nforce 2 mobo. and there is a pci lock on it, so there's no need for dividers
