Just listened to Springsteen's Born to Run Japanese Import on my tube system.

CD->foobar2000 0.8.3->kernel streaming->Optical out->Lite DAC-AH digital to analog converter-> Darkvoice 336i tube headphone amplifier -> Alessandro MS-2 headphones = BLISS

one of my favorites is the self titled 3 doors down cd (before "the better life"). the different versions of better life and loser are awesome. also dream theater (imho) sounds great on my Vienna acoustics Haydn bookshelfs with a martin logan dynamo sub .

I was about to respond to your OT post by showing you this thread, but seems like you found it yourself! Nice setup, I'm more of stereo guy, I couldn't get into headphones as much.

Rachmaninoff Symphonic Dances [reference recordings rr-96CD] -> Rotel RCD-1072 -> Rotel RC-1070 -> Rotel RB-1070 -> B&W 804s + ACI MaestroXL = BLISS over here

Listen once to a well setup system. Tubes = music.

Why do you think concerts sound so good?

The best concerts I have gone to do not use amplification

OTOH, The rock concerts I have gone to sounded like crap due to the terrible live acoustics, echos, etc. In such a compromised acoustical setup, I'm sure it would have been impossible for me to know if they were using tubes vs. S.S

You do realize that what you're hearing at concerts is transistor amplification right? Crown, Lab Gruppen, Digam, QSC, Crest - all very familiar names in professional audio and transistor. Many using classes of amplification quite unfamiliar to audiophile tirade. But quite effective nonetheless!

Sure the guitar amp may be tube. The drums may be miked through tube preamps (not very common). Tubes distort the sound. This distortion adds "warmth" and "smoothness" but is distortion nonetheless. As a fine instrument has timbre the valve is often desired to add warmth to "cold" recordings especially poor digital transfers.

Meh, that's why I use a tube pre.

There may be a government site which lists known audiophiles in your area. In some jurisdictions they are required to introduce themselves to all residents within a given radius. Certainly, do your research before purchasing a home.

I have a meter that detects him (reading on meter for demonstration purposes only)

That's because it's C weighted. If you're continuously over 100dB with A weighting it's quite loud and people have a hard time talking.

Many times we set up for around 100dB at FOH (front of house) A weighted and if the meter is put on unweighted it goes over 120 on synth bass drum hits.

No, I mean it literally was not that loud (it's the same picture I posted in a thread back in March). I tapped the end of the meter and took a picture

Small room.

I don't recommend this. It sounds great at the time, but it will damage your hearing.

Wish i woulda listened.

Oh I know, and I don't listen to anywhere near that sustained

I get short bits that high when watching movies, but never that loud sustained.

yoyo, listen to me. I know it sounds great. Turn it down or keep it only for a song or two and then rest your ears.

If it's movies and a quick impact, then fine. But don't ruin your ears.

90dB c-weighted is about at loud as I listen to music/movies, usually less (quite a bit less)

Just be careful dude, that's all I'm saying. Or if I could get the ringing out of my ears I could hear what I'm saying. And I'm 36.
