Any Car Dealers? Trade In Value

I am looking at buying a new car (Pontiac GTO) and had my truck appraised during the 0% for 72 months sale. They appraised it at $1100-$2500, at the time it was dirty, missing the drivers side mirror, and had the SES light on.

I have since cleaned up the truck, fixed the SES light, and replaced the mirror. How much "value" do you think this could add to the appraisal? I am not expecting much more but curiouse if there are any car dealers that could give an estimate

Vehicle is a 2000 GMC Sonoma SLS Sportside Bed ZQ8, 4cyl 5 spd 120k miles, condition is good.

Why not look it up using the NADA, KBB, Edmunds, etc.?

I'd say the truck is worth maybe 3k. I bought my 1995 Mitsubishi Mighty Max (generic japanese truck) 4cyl, 5speed at 77k miles from a stealership for I want to say 3700 out the door. The truck was (and still is) in really good shape, and it came with a fiberglass topper in matching color.

Trying to get that much for trade in from a dealer will be a bit tough though. They always like to bend you over.

I did, KBB and NADA quote around $3-4500 for trade in, however the dealerships are offering on average of $2k, just wondering how much they knock off for the SES light being on.

Sounds like they low balled you. Sell it outright and then buy without trade. Best deal

Yeah, but at the time the 0% was only going on for 72 hours. I know the dealers rape you on a trade in, but if they threw $3300 at me I would have a GTO.

The trade-in value is always going to be ridiculously low. At a dealership people want to buy, so they want to get into that new car fast and dump that old car they figure they have no use for. So the dealership "helps" them out by giving them some money for it to use for their new car purchase, and makes the entire deal that much quicker. The dealership will almost always make money off of the trade in of a used vehicle.

The offer they gave you for a 2000 GMC truck sounds stupid low. Offensively low IMHO. That truck could fetch at least twice as much in a private sale.

When I went to buy my new car the dealership initially offered me $250 for my 1989 Mazda MPV with around 100K miles. I told em to give me a ****** break, so they went all the way up to a whopping $500. So I said no thanks and lets go through with the paperwork not including the trade in.

I listed the van that week and sold in 8 days later for $1500 in cash.

The truth is they were giving you absolutely nothing for your truck. Trust me I know. Make your best deal for a straight out buy and sell your truck yourself.

I will be buying at GMS (GM Employee pricing) the price is set in stone by GM. The only thing I can negotiate on is my trade in.

that expains it, the dealer makes very little on those deals and try to make it up on the trades. your only option would be to sell your truck yourself

carquotes.com

they use black book, they same thing that most car dealers will use.

xrax, you are retarded, GMS gives the dealer a set $ amount, which is a very good amount, and also gives the salesman good comission.

and according to black book: the vehicle is worth: 3175 or so. depending upon exactly how dirty it is.

so them offering you 2k isnt out of the ball park.

they are limited to what they can charge for the doc fee on GMS sales. Most of that doc fee is profit.

they are limited on everything with GMS.

TTL is a set cost, car is a set cost, delivery is a set cost.

however they still make a good profit on everything

dealers don't lose money on a GMS sale but they don't make as much as if they were to sell at MSRP. They do have overhead costs. Tax Title and Licence isn't a profit to the dealer. That goes to the city/state. they try to get more money out of the deal by lowballing the trade. The doc fee for a GMS supplier is limited to $75. Typically that costs $200+. they make some money on dealer installed options.
