I will most likely be there from August till Feb and I was wondering if you guys could help me find a place. I'm gonna be working in East Cleveland but I wanted to live in the city or at least some place where stuff is going on. I'm not gonna be too far from Case Western university...would that be a decent area to live in? Thanks.

Look into Shaker Heights or Beachwood, those are two of the better neighborhoods near East Cleveland. Other than that I can't help you, I'm on the west side :v)

also nothing is going on in cleveland, sorry broski. moreso with lbj gone.

EDIT: wait, are you gonna be a student or something? afaik all there is in cleveland is suburbs... maybe a case student can chip in?

There are a lot of places that have things going on...

How far from CWRU are you willing to be?
The area around CWRU is a LARGE italian area...

If you are going to be working at Case, the area around the university is actually pretty nice. I would look for a place in Little Italy. I would not at all recommend going too much farther east than CWRU, though. Things get sketchy fast.

i'll be working about 2 miles north of CWRU. I don;t wanna be more than 15-20 mins away because of my shift times.

WTF are you talking about?

Shaker Heights
University Heights

those places have $$$$

i wouldnt go south, northeast, or west of CWRU though.

15-20 minutes is a HUGE range in Cleveland...

It takes me 35 minutes to get to CWRU from my parents house which is 20 miles according to google... so you have like a 10-15 mile radius...

Yeah, you are right, those places are really nice. When I usually think of "east of case" I am really thinking about the rapid stops after 120th - which are actually north east.

cool...so the traffic isn't as big a deal like it is in chicago/philly. the area around case western seems nice enough...and since its a university, there should be plenty to do if i have free time or if someone comes to visit.

heh, i guess i gotta be lebron replacement. btw, are you done in philly?

nope, got one more year. my parents still live in cleveland though and i'm back working at case for the summer. i really don't plan on coming back, though, cleveland's a shitty place to live for someone with few high school friends, most of em going to OSU and staying there for the summer. but hey, don't let me discourage you

as for traffic, it's nowhere at all like in the big cities. i live about 25 miles from case and my commute takes around 40 minutes or so, slowdowns being the many stoplights driving from west to east and merging on the innerbelt from 90 (which is about 5-10 minutes every day).

see, i have NO idea of anywhere the RTA stops, other than out in Shaker Heights, as that was the closest to my house, and was still a 20 minute drive...

Shaker has a HUGE jewish community

you might even be able to hit Mayfield/mayfield heights, etc. within your 15-20 minute drive range...

The nice thing about CWRU is that the red line and health line go right through the middle of it, you are pretty much always in walking distance of a station/stop. Though, they have raised the price several times since fall of 2008...

what about downtown? although i don't know if it would be in my price range. would be cool though.

downtown has less going on than the places we just mentioned...

driving from Mayfield to downtown is a 25 minute drive...
from CWRU to "the flats" is around a 10 minute drive...
from CWRU to the "warehouse district" is a 10 minute drive...

do NOT think of Chicago, Philly, California, Columbus, etc style traffic...

I am a graduate student at Case.

I live out in the suburbs, but I am married and the wife's family lives in Kent so we split the distance (BTW Kent is a real fun college town). Anyhow a lot of my colleagues live in Little Italy and near Coventry. There are not a lot of things to do near Case, but as somebody mentioned the Health Line is a straight shot to downtown. Also Coventry, Little Italy, and Cedar-Lee are near there which are pretty decent places. With that being said on the Case campus is a bar called The Barking Spider which is freaking awesome. It's a little hole in the wall with amazing live music every day.

Despite the reputation there are a lot of cool places and things to do in Cleveland. I'm not a Cleveland native and only moved here recently for my program so I am not a born and bred Clevelander but I enjoy it well enough.

Another area to look in, which may be a tad out of your previously mentioned driving radius, is over in West Cleveland in an area called Tremont and Ohio City. Tremont is a real up and coming hipster revitalized area and in general the West Side has some cool bars.

are you in Geauga County?

Close! I'm in Streetsboro, but north of I-80. It takes me ~40 minutes to drive to University Circle, and downtown Kent is ~20 minutes. . . OK hell I live closer to Kent than I do to CWRU.

We are considering moving up to Tremont, but moving sucks.

Streetsboro sucks.

There is nothing in the city but a bunch of houses, apartments, and a strip mall. The wife did her undergrad at Kent (2001?) so we go down there for excitement. Sometimes if we have the urge to go to a bar we go to Twinsburg or Solon. If we are real ambitious we'll go up to Cleveland, but usually not for spur of the moment bar trips.

We got married shortly before moving here so we still have a bunch of junk from our previous lives mixed together. Previously we lived in a duplex with two floors, a basement, garage, and a front/back yard so we have tons of stuff. Getting a large apartment up in Cleveland where we could park two cars was just too much of a pain in the ass. The place we got in Streetsboro has good amenities and size for the cost. Just takes a lot of time for me.

honestly... move up into Geauga if you want lowish taxes, land, nicer streets, etc... though further from Kent (i grew up near Geauga Lake, but not Aurora or Solon)...

I do know someone with a multi-million dollar home in Streetsboro though... it is on some 70 acre lake though... lol.
