AMD Athlon 64 3200 = 391
ASUS K8V-DX (VIA K8T800/ AGP8X/Audio/FW/Gigabit LAN/SATA/Wi-Fi/3DDR = 185
SB Live Dolby Digital 5.1 (OEM) = 39
LG 52X INT IDE = 27
LG 52X32X52X INT IDE (OEM) = 45
VANTEC 420W ATX triple FANS = 120

I dont know what RAM, what HDD and what network card to get i run 10 Mbps cable. Appreciate your imput.
Also is it worth it to get dual channel RAM if im not running a socket 939 system?

You should get minimum of pc3200 RAM if your looking for a gaming pc.A gig of that stuff would preferable but i think 512mb of it would have to be minimum.

If you have the money get 2 sticks of 512MB RAMPC3200. Either Kingston HyperX or Corsair XMS Extreme.

If you don't have that much money then get any value PC3200 RAM.

OCZ EL 512MB sticks and Hyper-X 512MB sticks are both PC3200 with 2-3-2 timing, and the OCZ stuff is $20 cheaper. Corsair XMS Extreme is slower and more expensive.

I really see no point in getting a 52X CD-ROM and a 52X CD-RW these days. It's ridiculous having two drives but not even being able to read DVD's. Just get a $45 combo 52X CD-RW 16X DVD-ROM. You can also get a dual-layer NEC DVD burner for $90, but it doesn't look like you're interested in that if you don't even have a DVD-ROM to begin with.

And why exactly are you asking which network card to get when the mobo has Gbit LAN built in?

If I were you I would get a pair of 160GB Hitachi 7K250's and RAID them (they're $103 each), but since you're so keen on overspending, you may want to just get a pair of Raptor 74's.

Most people are waiting for new boards, DDR2, PCI Express, or for the 939 CPU's to come down before they spend that kind of money. You, however, are talking about getting a $450 AGP card and a $270 Socket 754 CPU. You make absolutely no mention of your budget or even what you intend to do with the machine. The only advice anybody can give you is going to be extremely general.

my system is going to be mainly used for gaming and i want it to last a while. also i didnt go with the 939 because the diff in performance in my opinion is not worth the tons of extra money for it and ide rather put it into something else.

sorry my budget is ~1600$ CDN. if this helps you give me ur comments sorry i forgot to mention it earlier.

Why go with the SB sound card when the onboard sound is considered to be equal to the SB Live? If you want a sound card, get the Audigy 2 ZS. The onboard ethernet is as good as an add-in card. Get a 16X DVD-ROM instead of the 52X CD-ROM. I would get a big Seagate Barracuda to serve as my HDD. You can choose from several different memory brands, but I think PC3500 is the way to go with an AMD system. HTH. Peace.

Socket 939 has more upgradability than 754, if you can wait. Also 1 GB of OCZ and Corsair are good choices (min PC3200 w/o OCing)
