Question Any compelling reason to upgrade from a 3080 to 4080/90?

I haven't been keeping up the brisk moving GPU industry, but is there a good reason to upgrade from a 3080?

Depends on the game you are playing & the settings. If no pressing urgency then waiting yields newer cards and/or better prices

Ah, been playing mostly Elden Ring & DLC, Lies of P, Lords of the Fallen and now Black Myth Wukong. Prior the BMW, I've been able to play all those games on max settings albeit with RT off with FPS at or over 60 consistently. However, with BMW, I'm no longer able to do so, and have read some with the newer 4080s & 4090s being able to run the game with max settings even with RT on at around greater than 60 FPS.

I'm assuming we'll be seeing more games with the UR5 engine? At least, for the games I'm only interested in playing, the Soulslike games. Generally, in my view, the ideal time to buy is when they introduce and focus on the next generation. Any idea when that would be? I suppose, once they introduce the 5000 series, the 4000 series should offer some better price points.

5000 series

It's coming soon as it's being talked about in news releases. There are some other cards out though with insane amounts of RAM if you look outside of the consumer stuff. Then again it comes down to the chips as well.

BMW is UE5 Nvidia version with hardware Lumen

By contrast Senua's Saga Hellblade 2 is standard UE5 with soft lumen

Keep in mind nvidia will always sponsor games that make their future gen cards look good. BMW will probably max out a 6090 / 6090 ti etc. without DLSS. If you are ok with DLSS then you can try 4090

Wow, a $1500 GPU is no longer adequate? Currently, I'm running BMW with FG off, RT off, settings on very high except for a few (vegetation), and on a 4k (well, 3.8K widescreen). The game runs mostly at around 60 FPS.

I've yet to try SWO, but I have seen some reviews. From my untrained eye, the graphics strikes me as underwhelming and perhaps it would look much better on a PC? Because it sure looks like crap on a PS5.
