any continuing problems with sblive and VIA?

I did a serach and really didnt find any posts on problems with the new 266a or 333 chipset from VIA. I have the kt133a (Abit KT7a-r)and a Sblive 5.1. Up to this day I STILL have cracking and popping....and other issues like USB and HD detection problems. Now...im about to upgrade and becuase of all these VIA problems I was going to go with an IWill XP333-r (being a different chipset and all...). So i figured Id check to see if maybe all these problems had been fixed for the asus A7V333 loks rather tempting.

Im going to a XP 1800, 512mb of DDR 2700 or 2400 ram and of course...a new MB....just got to figure this one out....thanks for your help.

crackling and popping isn't a VIA issue at all, its the crappiness of Live! cards.

HD detection? thats not an issue with Live! I have a feeling either your problem lies somewhere else, or you made it up.

There are no usb issues with the Live!

All problems with the Live and VIA chipsets are fixed through bios updates and drivers, except of course, the bad sound quality, which is just the chips fault.

First off..there were problems with the sblive and its placement in the board....also the cracking and popping were not the fault of a "crappy" sound card...but a prob with the chipset. There were USB problems (as in not recognizing different hardwares and such...alos a patch did come out for this though)...and still are for me....not to big of a deal....but annoying none the less. The HD detection may or may not be VIA...so..ok...Ill leave that one =) . ALL Im wondering is wether or not ppl are still having problems with thier sblice and via 266a or 333 chipsets. Thanks...

Personally I've never had a problem with a SB Live card in any of the multiple hundreds of systems I've built with them, whether its a VIA chipset or SiS or Intel or what-have-you. Not sure why some people report problems.

ps. Currently running an SB Live on a kt266a board and XP...no problems at all.

once again, crackling and popping will not go away if you take a VIA or intel chipset, its a live sound quality problem.

The only problem there could be with placement on the board is IRQ issues, which are possible problems for all hardware.

The only usb problem I've heard of is overclocking the KT266 chipset.

I would avoid the KT333 for many reasons. KT266A is a smarter move, as you don't know if the DDR333 specs are going to change, it may happen.

Live! soundcards are not responsible for snap crackle pop... it's teamwork. Live! cards are good for the money.. and I find work pretty damn well overall..

and no there are almost no issues at all.. a Live! has worked fine in my last 2 VIA boards without problems.

OK..very cool. Thanks for the advice. Now i guess Its a toss up for kt266a and the kt333. Now I agree that the 333 spec may change (for ram) it doesnt mean that the existing, albeit fake, ddr 333 ram will stop working. I know taht an "a" ver usually comes out soon after a via chipset release..but I believe the next VIA chipset will be the kt400......dunno...I still remember buying the kt133a when it first came out. I waited upgrading for 2 weeks just to get it. It was worth it though....
