Venezuela's president Hugo Chavez has offered to ship soldiers and supplies to New Orleans. He should send himself so Pat Robertson can kill him.

On the radio on the way to work today i heard that 26 Countries have offered assistance. It's nice to see that - gives me faith that the world is a good place despite the bad that is always focused on.

I don't understand why we aren't taking them all up on their offers, for at least the S&R teams. I can understand not wanting to have other countries soldiers on our soil for a variety of reasons, but the time is of the escense here and the more S&R teams the better IMO.

I highly doubt that Venezuelan soldiers would be welcome if they show up unexpectedly.

First: Don't be stupid by comparing this disaster to the tsunami. A few thousand dead a million displaced does NOT equal a couple hundred thousand dead and millions displaced.

Second: The countries/areas hit hardest by the tsunami are third-world. The people had little/no wealth, and their governments had little/no infrastructure to deal with the aftermath. The US is not third-world, and we have some of the best infrastructure in the world to deal with disasters like these.

Third: The tsunami was the first real GLOBAL recovery effort in a long time. Donations poured in worldwide, not just from the US. There were lesser disasters that occurred (on the scale of Katrina) that the US and other nations didn't contribute to, such as a number of typhoons, earthquakes, etc.

Fourth: The tsunami affected entire nations, because many of the places hardest hit were tourism driven economies. Katrina did not destroy the US and its effects, while far reaching, will not be as dramatic as what happened to those hit by the tsunami.

Fifth: Private donations from countries worldwide WILL come in. It's awefully shortsided of you guys to expect each donation to be accompanied by a press release, as if every contributor out there wants to brag about their donation for their own selfish reasons.

Sixth: We do not need loans from other nations to help pay for Katrina. Insurance and our own governments will more than cover the costs.

Seventh: The area is a fvcking confusing mess with our own people in there. Reports everywhere are claiming POOR communication between officials on site, POOR coordination of efforts, and even the Mayor of NO said there were "too many cooks in the kitchen". Please tell me how a group of foreign language speaking aid workers from another country who are not familiar with our procedures and protocols are going to be of any help?

Right. The military is going to be really happy about foreign aircraft just flying in and landing in New Orleans. Of course these foreign countries have to offer and get permission first or how else would they actually get to the disaster area?

As an American, I would like to give a huge THANK YOU to our international friends who have offered aid.

Even if our (oft-times pig-headed) government rejects offers, private charities abound here. I'll be donating to the Red Cross today, but there are many other worthwhile charitable organizations.

I didn't say send troops, I said send HELP. What about food or money? Our government seems to be taking its sweet time getting the place together. These countries could give to, say, the red cross maybe? Flying fighter planes over the area isn't the only way for these places to send help.

As for the death toll, don't compare until you know. Nobody has any idea how many bodies are floating under that water, and nobody knows how many more people will die wiaiting for the government to do something.

I'm not comparing it to the tsunami to compare death toll statistics. I'm comparing it because we sent help there. Everyone expected us to send help there. People complained that we didn't send ENOUGH help there. Now we need help. Where is it? In bogus "offers" that both the US and these foreign countries know we will turn down. Don't even act like it's us being pig headed and that's why we are turning down the offers of aid. Do you think we would ever hear the end of how the United States accepted money and supplies from these nations? Again, there is a HUGE difference between offering aid and sending aid. we dont need food or money sh1thead. If anything we need teams capable of s&r and disaster management. and we shouldnt accept food or money because we are well capable of dealing with our own mess.

Looks like the first 1-3 pages of naysayers can STFU. Even Cuba and Venezuela are offering help. Don't forget, we consider both countries our ENEMIES. China, the communist country that we hate. Even Sri-Lanka who, if you already forgot, are still recovering from the tsunami are offering to help. Some of you prideful "patriots" continue to look like idiots by posting.
