Any divers/snorkellers, what do you do with your keys

My beach condo just changed its lock system. All the gates are electronic fobs that cannot get wet. I just don't feel at ease leaving a bag on the beach with my keys, but cant find a way to keep the fob dry while diving. Most small cases will leak at minimal depths, and most water tight bags are too bulky.

Just diving from the beach at the reef park built by the parks dept just off shore.

Ideas?

Make a rubber gasket for a plastic spice bottle, and put them in there. I used to do that for cigarettes WW paddling, and it kept everything dry.

Cool.

Do you have an underwater cam? You should bring back pics.

Unfortunately not, but I am only there occ, (vacation home). Looked for a disposible underwater digital last week but didn't find one. May invest in a non-disposible one if I get down there more often. Damn job.

What kind of life is in those reefs?

Mostly parrot fish, a few blue tang, a few nurse sharks, pork fish and doctorfish. Occasionally a few rays.

Havent seen any bigger sharks or baracuda yet, hopefully they stay to the deeper waters.

Magnetic key box to stick under your car. Or hide it under a nearby rock.

Most of the family wants to snorkel as well. Wouldnt you.

all those dots are reefs, man made and only about 3 - 10 feet below the surface depending on tides

Not like I could afford to even go there let alone own a place there but I'd have to say no thanks. I REALLY like snorkelling but I don't really like the whole beach hotel / condo resort thing. I'd prefer to go somewhere off shore or somewhere with natural reefs. And the fewer people the better. Or if there are people hopefully not tourists.

Course the last place we went to was a resort in Belize.

It is actually a very private beach. To far from the public access to walk there with all your beach stuff. Some snorkelling enthusiests will come up from the public beach access with just their snorkel gear but the beach itself rarely has more than 10 people per acre of beach.
The condo is you typical florida beach condo, mostly elderly folks that live there year round and a few seasonal renters/snowbirds. No weekly rentals so no tourists. Its like having your own private reef. Sure its not natural but it has been growing naturally for 4 years now and every year there is more to see. The best thing is no need to rent a boat.

I've mostly done boat dives, but last December we did a few shore dives and we were able to leave our valuables up in the dive shop while we were in the water.

Your situation sounds a bit different though...

They make containers to keep stuff dry even to 100 feet, check dive shop. Shouldn't be more than 20-25 bucks.

the numbers are tricky. Riviera Beach is about 20 mins south of me(i live in Jupiter) and is where I went to high school (Suncoast). There is a massive bridge that seperates the poor and rich in that area. Where the OP is at is rather nice. The home prices have been killed since many the HOAs have been going under and the fees levied against homeowners are extremely high. Just dont ever cross that bridge past 630pm. Head north to PGA blvd if possible. Blue Heron blvd is TOUGH at night.

PS if you go north to where I am at that there is a park called "blowing rocks". that is pay to play. It only costs 2 bucks a person but it keeps any of the rift raft from bothering you. The snorkeling is amazing! natural reef and a lot of wildlife.

The Otter Box 1000 Series case is waterproof, crushproof AND watertight (it floats!). These cases are perfect for protecting your valuables from the elements, whatever they may be. The Otter Box 1000 offers watertight protection and storage for pagers, car keys, film, batteries, credit cards, small wallets, cell phones, fishing lures and so much more. The Otter Box is a patented dry box designed to handle full submersions--up to 100 feet! The solid color boxes provide nearly 100% UV protection. The main case seal ismade from a foamed silicone cord. The plastic used to make the colored Otter Boxes is an ABS plastic that's reinforced with fiberglass. The hinge pins are made from marine grade 316 Stainless Steel which is the standard choice for salt and freshwater applications.

Exactly, that's what I posted and I was surprised it was only ten bucks. I used to have a "dive key" that I would bring with me on a lanyard and I didn't care that it got wet. That way it didn't effect my buoyancy at all and it was so small I didn't have to worry about it getting mixed up with all my other crap. (Instructor, I used to carry a lot of crap on dives.)

It would get rusty after a while, so I just made another one every so often.

Is there a locker maybe that you could leave them in, or perhaps the office for the condo complex?

That is a pretty good price. Once you add "dive" to anything the price triples. But in my experience anything meant for diving and good to 100 feet has always stayed dry provided you maintain the o-ring/seal properly.
