Anand has done some DVD Shrink benchies, but as part of the Multitasking Bench.
I would like to know trhe scores for Athlon 64 3000+ and P4 3 Ghz in DVD Shrink, in order to know which one performs better.
Is there any DVD Shrink Benchamrk out there?
Thank you all.

P4 performs better. I have both Intel and AMD systems.

I do not have the link of benchmarks, but the new Linux comparison of Intel and AMD dual core just posted at Anatech refers to the DVD encoding performance of P4, Venice and dual cores.

My old Dell P4 2.0 GHz with 512 Ram rips DVD's in DVD Shrink nearly twice as fast as my Athlon 64 3500+ with 1 GB at 2-2-2-5. Luckily my new AMD machine beats it at everything else.

DVD Shrink on my Athlon 3500+ is throttled by my 16x DVD reader/8x writer, only hitting around 15% CPU unless I turn on Adaptive Error Correction.

It gets accelerated by my ATI All-in-Wonder Radeon 9800 pro, running much slower if the TV tuner is in use.

My Dual Athlon MP 2400's can rip a Dual layer DVD (with 2-pass encoding) in about an hour and 15 minuets.

Mine goes just about as fast as a dell p4 2.2Ghz, which makes sense since I have a 3200+ newcastle. I have a liteon drive though, does that mean I can unlock it?

I'll assume you made a typo and meant Dell P4 3.2GHz.

And you're right. The P4 is faster for this type of work, but the difference is rather negligble in most cases.

As for unlocking the LiteOn drive, I can't say for sure. Try googling for your model number and see what can be done with it.

I think he didnt mean P4 3.2, and his 3200+ is as fast as a 2.2 Ghz P4.
P4 has a big advantage with this software. I say again: What alternatives are there instead of using DVD Shrink?

I used to use shrink on my athlon 1.1 GHz and now on my XP 3200 and also on my daughters Sempron 2800 and they all seemed to be about the same.

My 3200+ Newcastle takes about 30 minutes to rip a dual layer DVD.

I'd like to hear how much it takes on a comparabe Intel system.

Times are going to vary depending on the length of the film, the size of the disc, and the amount of compression you use. Times will also vary if you enable adaptive error correction or if you encode directly from the disc. My Winchester @ 2.4 will do a disc with no compression in about 10 minutes, but a longer disc with a lot of footage (3+ hours) can take over an hour. I use adaptive error correction and I encode from the HD, FWIW.

The P4's with HT ONLY!!! will beat A64's...I have had both and tested this....However the dual core Pentium D's like 820-840 though dual core in test I saw some guy posting the X2's now control that lead. Partially because the clock speed is soooo low for the intel P Ds (prescots and their crappy heat), but also cause each now can handle multithreading.....advantage is now gone.....The XE I will assume may very well take that back if it can handle more then 2 threads but I have not seen proof of this. Some apps dont like the HT and the 4 cores as seen in many many reviews....

Like I have always said HT is the best thing the P4 has going for it. It is its crutch and without it it would het spanked consistently......
