Whoever the guy is, he's a moron.

Not as bad as the folks who did that fancy wiring job, but a moron none the less.

BTW, I didn't see any duct tape...

It connected the power strip to the 14 AWG cable in the garage! How else would you connect them together?

Looked like electrical tape to me, not duct tape.

I'd probably have just put a box with outlet on the end of the Romex instead of splicing them together...BUT, that'd have cost a couple of $$$, and a fine bit of "home handymanship" should always be as low-cost as possible.
The homeowner WOULD have been more responsible had he simply planted a current bush next to the garage instead of running all that wire...

The answer is obviously smurf tubing. Every wire should be covered with smurf tubing so as not to be visible. Then no one will know wtf is in there. The occasional smell of molten plastic is a known pest repellent capable of repelling such creatures as mother in laws as well as Jehovas witnesses.

That's nothing compared to my basement when I bought this place. Many circuits all put together the same way. None of the pieces was more than 6 or 8 feet long though. I have scorch marks on the sill plate from a wire that apparently overheated there. I had one circuit arc out against the floor when we moved a dangling outlet. "That's Live?!!!" Spent most of an afternoon just ripping out wires throughout the basement. Eventually, I'll have rewired almost the entire house & will feel safer. There's one circuit I won't be able to get to which was rather against code - they managed to use a 2-way switch with just one run of 12/2 w/grd. Yep - the ground wire was used as a carrier wire. That's been disconnected within the electrical box; one switch no longer works, but I won't be able to remove the wire due to where it's at.

Not sure what the problem is...

It is only two garage door openers, plugged into a power strip that is spliced to anoter wire, ran from garage to house along the fence, another splice, through a doorway, and then into a socket adapter.

Really, he did use wire clips and electical tape. GJ homeowner, GJ.

Errr, yes, extremely dangerous.

PSA: just because there aren't any exposed wires / ends doesn't mean something can't short out or overheat and cause a fire.

yup wiring outside has to be inside shielded conduit, wire probably has to be outside spec itself. that looked like a buncha in wall wiring spec only.

err, wire not secured and boxed = not up to code.

Can't tell from the video, but it doesn't look like it's Romex 12/3, again not up to code.

lol nice.

varying gages spliced together and covered with tape, romex just stapled outside, wire punched through walls where convenient.

it's weird though - looks like fairly new construction and i doubt they picked up those garage door openers ( seem new and clean ) at a garage sale and there's no electricity in the garage?

Actually it does.

Worse case scenario it will trip a breaker.

No worst case scenario is that brown extension cord is 16 gauge wire and that light bulb is on a 20 amp circuit requiring 12 gauge wire. Lets see a motor could overheat his hack job could short internally or maybe he didn't think about amp draw on however long of a run that is. Any of those can cause that brown wire to overheat before tripping the breaker. Causing the house to burn down.

Short answer your a moron.
