Hi all,

I bought an oem 3500 on this board. It has 3 bent pins.

Anybody out there want to give a shot fixing it OR:

Can someone give me a tutorial on it. I really am afraid to touch it though.

I would return it, as it's fairly liklely that it came that way (especially if it was an oem)

How bent are the pins? If they're at a 90 degree angle then there's a good chance you'd break them.

If it's a minor bend you can use a small needle nose pliers or, a pair of tweezers. BUT make DARN SURE to take static electricity precautions! One zap on any of those pins and it's toast. Use a ground strap or ground yourself before bending the pins AND DO NOT move your feet until you finish and put down the CPU.

I have on several occasions straightened slightly bent pins on cpus by using a 6" steel rule. By laying the rule length-wise between the pin rows, it not only supplies leverage, but a straight-edge guide to guage the re-alignment.

Credit card, or even a butter knife can work well.
But since this is new, RMA it!! Don't take a chance that break a pin. RMA's can really be a PITA, but this one is necessary IMO.

Heck, I've used my fingernail to straighten pins, with quite good results actually. For additional precision, I'll almost use the finger as a tool, holding it with my other hand to reduce shaking. Works quite well.

He said he bought it here, so I highly doubt it's new. Fixing bent pins (if they are slightly bent) isn't hard. Just be careful.

>> You can use a mechanical pencil. Remove the lead first.

This just seems to be a absolute foolproof way of doing it. Great idea.
