The closer to the Theater District and Times Square the better. Half a mile away is OK but not much farther than that.

it was a nice hotel but our room wasn't very large which didn't matter to us since we only slept there. it wasn't very expensive and it is right near times square.

I guess what I am trying to avoid is a place with plain boring rooms that are not to small. I've stayed at a very inexpensive place in NYC once but the room had almost no decorations. It was very plain. It was also the smallest hotel room that i have ever seen. It was about half the size of any room that I'd term typical (200-250 sqft). This room was probably 140 sqft including hte bathroom area. I just want a bit more than that. I don't care for a suite but a bigger room would be nice.

What would be very nice is something that is victorian themed (including the rooms)

my wife and i stayed at a hotel right in times square pretty much, and was like $600 for 3 nights after a hotels.com discount i had.

it was a tiny place but it was very modern on the inside and a really nice hotel. but like i said, it was very small.

it was fine for what we needed though because we were not in our room much at all.

I would say all hotels in NYC are priced fairly... high.

It's a fair price regardless for most...it's hard to find rooms many times of the year.

I stayed at the morgan's for $100 a night. It was a great location, very nice room no jacuzzi tho. I'm sure you could do much better for $350 a night.

agreed. that was how we chose it. it was definitely small though. luckily all we did in the room was pass out and take showers.

Try my idea....at that hotel, every room had a kitchen. Just stay away to rooms that are adjacent to elevators. That said, that hotel could use an interior decorator.....

UPDATE:I am planning a weekend getaway for my wife. Got tickets for Wicked. Now I have to find a hotel. I really want a hotel in NYC with an in room jacuzzi that fits 2 people. It's hard to find on the internet though. Does anyone know of a hotel that has this in NYC?

Impossible to make a recommendation without knowing the size of the two people in question. Ergo, TTIWWOP.

Also OP, consider the Hilton Garden Inn near Times Square. I stayed there about a year ago and it was very comfortable. Not sure if they have an in-room jacuzzi, but the room was clean, updated, and right near the heart of Times Square. Their rates are ~$250/night if I recall correctly.

UPDATE: Giving up on the Jacuzzi. Don't want to spend that much. Let's cap this at $350/night for any other room. I'd love to spend less than $250/night though. Ideal location is close to Times Square.

The rack rate was $400/night at the Four Points by Sheraton Midtown - Times Square and the room I was in over Christmas did not have a hot tub or Jacuzzi. In fact it had a standing shower.

Room was fairly nice (photos of the suite at the link above are accurate), loved the King-sized bed, the 40" LCD TV, the wireless Internet and especially the location - literally a two minute walk from Times Square. In retrospect next time we might stay in SoHo instead since we're more about shopping than tourism.
