UPDATE: Giving up on the Jacuzzi. Don't want to spend that much. Let's cap this at $350/night for any other room. I'd love to spend less than $250/night though. Ideal location is close to Times Square.

When do you want to go? If you want to go now, you should have no issue. I hate to push you, but the hotel I mentioned, as well as the Milford Plaza Hotel are 1 or 2 blocks away from time square. They are not the best hotels, but most really good hotels in NY are over $300 a night, even in the slow season.

If you go at teh right time, you get a Hilton hotel for about $179 a night.

I really like the W Union Square, but it may be out of your price range, depending on the time of year. When we went in the fall (for a wedding) it was about $400 a night for a standard room.

Oh, near Times Square, we once stayed at Dream Hotel. It's in midtown, definitely walkable to Times Square. It was clean and the prices were decent, but the rooms are small. It's a relatively recent renovation.

It's been about 4 years since our last stay, though, so check out the bed bug situation before you book.

ok so i won't have to recommend all the outright touristy stuff

If you have recomendations that are less common, I have an open ear in regards to places we could go.

I think Friday night will be times Square. Saturday night is Wicked. After Wicked we'll probably grab a bite to eat somewhere.

A good place to eat dinner prior to Wicked would be nice though. My wife is a vegetarian (for hte most part) so that would be nice for her. I'd like a good meal for dinner though. Liek steak. So, a good vegetarian restaurant hata seves steak. Or a good Mexican place! We foudn a great one last time we went to NYC but I do not remember where it is or what it's name is.

Ya, I already checked them out. I think they were $500 starting for when we are going.

From looking around, we are going to have to shell out over $250 which is fine. I am happy spending up to $350. Not mroe though.

I really liked Craft Bar. Went there for dinner once with a group, and on brunch on our own, and both meals were good.

There's another W up closer to Times Square, might be cheaper. The Union Sq location is the most expensive of the 3 in Manhattan, I believe.

I've had the most consistent experience with Starwood hotels, so if I'm going somewhere I don't go often, I usually look for one. Hilton are my fall back.

have you ever done rodizio or brazilian bbq before? if not, try this place:

http://www.churrascariaplataforma.com/

but note it's really more for you than for your wife - ie - for carnivores. they do have a ridiculously large salad bar but i don't think she'll be satisfied. it's still quite an experience.

do you like indian food? this place is located near wicked and there should be ample choices for both herbivores and carnivores:

http://www.utsavny.com/index4.htm

for mexican i went to this place and it was really good. they actually make fresh guacamole at your table. unfortunately, it's a little bit from where you're going to be (lincoln square area) and they only have a couple of vegetarian dishes:

this place is right in times square and has decent italian food but beware they serve the portions family style (read: huge):

http://www.carminesnyc.com/index.php

finally, ruby foos is right near wicked and has good japanese/chinese fusion food and good drinks (ruby foo is good even if it does look and sound like a girly drink) but again the vegetarian menu is limited:

check The Muse Hotel

it's a Kimpton property

Web site looks nice. Are the rooms really that nice looking. It's modernish which I normally don't care for but it is very nice. $335 to start up to $590 for the spa suite. The location is great!

UPDATE: I think we may have a winner! This place gets great reviews.

It's Official. Staying at The Muse. Just made reservations for $335/night. They were out of the cheapest room which would have been fine but I only spent an extra $20/night. This place is about 1 minute from times square and got very good reviews at tripadvisor.com. It was something like the #3 ranked near Times Square according to tripadvisor.com.

ALL THE HELP EVERYONE GAVE IS MUCH APPRECIATED!

OK, that leaves food and fun planning!

Yes, the rooms are actually that nice. Kimpton does a pretty good job overall.

The building is laid out a little funky but that's because it's an old building that they rehabbed, something Kimpton does a lot of very well.

The location and hotel quality is very hard to beat for the price. Hopefully they are still running the free wine happy hour in the lobby

I thought that Metrazur was an interesting dining experience - it's actually on one of the balconies inside Grand Central Terminal. Fantastic for people watching, but a little bit on the cooler side temperature-wise so make sure to remind your wife to take a sweater. The food and service was good.
