Gunpowder is self-oxidizing. But I never saw anyone loading shells on the show, and the guns all went 'pew pew,' didn't they?

Exception being the last episode, IIRC, where all the whores and their Henry repeaters (or whatever; some kinda lever action) seemed to use actual bullets.

I don't think ammo/weapons were ever really explained in Firefly. It was just, get some prop guns, cut stuff off/paste stuff on until you get the desired mix of 'futuristic' and 'old'....profit. It was much more about the looks.

[edit: if the 'guns in space' question was about the primer, I'm pretty sure that's self oxidizing, too. I believe any solid explosive pretty well has to be, as only gases or at least atomized liquids are going to be able to get enough oxygen to 'explode']

I don't remember that scene, but I'm assuming that it's a standard gunpowder-based weapon. If that's the case, wouldn't the weapon not fire to begin with? When the firing pin hits the blasting cap, it creates as spark that ignites the gunpowder, but since you're in space, you don't have oxygen to fuel the ignition.

Vera was inside of a pressurized spacesuit.

Maybe it's just me, but that's proof of my point if I ever saw it. She's got pretty features and all, but so do some dudes if you put them in enough makeup. ;P

Thai ladyboy? If they looked like that it wouldnt be frowned upon when you screwed one! Geez, in that second pic she looks 1000x better than any woman I've ever dated.

It was mentioned in the episode, Vera needed a space suit in order to fire. But that brings up another great Jayne moment. Instead of just disabling the net, he shot out the window sucking the pirates into space. And he smiled while doing it. hhahaha

I do enjoy Cowboy Bebop (bounty hunters in space) and Starcraft lore (admittedly inspired by Firefly).

Is it good? I get a feeling it's cheesy and campy.

Firefly isn't really like Cowboy Bebop, though I enjoy both. I'd say Firefly was more Outlaw Star, but MUCH better. The show was legitimately the best sci fi show ever aired in my opinion (and probably the opinion of many others). The biggest screw up of the show was Fox not airing the pilot episode first, as a result you missed character introductions and interactions and nobody really knew the story behind some characters. I actually missed the first two episodes when it aired on television, went online to find them at friends' suggestions, and found the pilot episodes spoiled online first. I shared them with friends and everyone agreed it made the show so much better.

Past the pilot episode the usually considered best episodes are Jaynestown and Our Mrs. Reynolds. Really even the worst episodes are still pretty good. And the best episodes are downright fantastic.

Our Mrs Reynolds, Out of Gas, Shindig and Objects in Space are probably my favorites. Even in the weaker episodes, there are usually enough good scenes which make them worth watching.

Not a big fan of the show, but watched almost all the episodes during the reruns over the years. Didn't know it run only for a season of 14 episodes. ^_^

I've watched the pilot + season + movie through twice, and I don't think there's a single episode in the set that's bad. Some, such as the ones mentioned above, were standouts, but it was all smart, well done, and entertaining.

Maybe weak was the wrong way to put it, but when I rewatch the series, I never watch Safe Bushwacked, Ariel or The Message. They were worth watching just to get the backstories flesh out the universe, but I dont want to rewatch them like the others.

My coworker mentioned it a few times and I finally watched it and Serenity. I thoroughly enjoyed it and now I want to watch it again.

I like Ariel. I was unaware anyone didn't like The Message. FFS, Jayne got his hat.

I don't get why people like Mrs Reynolds (other than 'nice tits').

Out of Gas is by far the standout, I think. Plus the pilot, and oh yeah, Objects in Space is pretty awesome. I think the 'other' pilot is also good, if a bit basic (dunno the name; the one Fox made them do to get people 'into' the show more quickly).

I like parts of all the episodes I dont rewatch, but I would really have to be in the mood to watch the whole episode. The Message in particular was just a downer. Also felt like a goodbye to the series episode. I dunno.

Morena Baccarin is one of the few women who can pull of the long hair/short hair transition and still look beautiful.

Ahh okay. I couldn't even remember the scene much less the episode, so that explains it.

I've watched it through twice, and it's still one of my favorites. It's on Netflix so I will probably watch it a third time at some point. Makes me sad that it didn't last. Sort of like Arrested Development. Everyone says they loved it, but the ratings weren't there.

Well AD is coming back so that's good.
