Gunpowder is self-oxidizing. But I never saw anyone loading shells on the show, and the guns all went 'pew pew,' didn't they?
Exception being the last episode, IIRC, where all the whores and their Henry repeaters (or whatever; some kinda lever action) seemed to use actual bullets.
I don't think ammo/weapons were ever really explained in Firefly. It was just, get some prop guns, cut stuff off/paste stuff on until you get the desired mix of 'futuristic' and 'old'....profit. It was much more about the looks.
[edit: if the 'guns in space' question was about the primer, I'm pretty sure that's self oxidizing, too. I believe any solid explosive pretty well has to be, as only gases or at least atomized liquids are going to be able to get enough oxygen to 'explode']
