Thanks, it was the largest salmon that I caught this season. The rest was under 15 lbs. It is bloody because we forgot to bring a club, and had to use a large screw driver to whacked it repeatedly.

I had limited charter halibut fishing in the past, but now I like to get my own gears for it. We lost a very large halibut (perhaps 180~200 lbs) on our last trip, because the gaffer that we had was too small and we didn't have a spear or gun.

why do you have to whack the fish in the head?

It is easier to fish if we don't have live fish jumping around in a 16' boat.

good luck pulling a 200lb pissed off fish into your relatively small boat with gear all over the place.
I do not think most boat can pull a fish that large into the boat with out risking capsizing, or with out a winch.

For us, we kill the fish and tow it to the dock if we catch anything that large, because the boat is too small to land such a large fish.

The best fishing experienced that I ever had in my life was in the middle of the salmon run this summer. We caught our quota of chinooks, chums, cohos, sockeyes, and pinks salmon in less than 2 hours, which is odd because the salmon runs are not at same time of the year. And, we caught and released at least 25+ for the later 3.5 hours of fishing.

My catch from this past weekend: 17.5" of awesome bassness. As soon as the plastic buzz frog hit the water, the bass attacked and missed, but came back and hit it hard.

Awesome! My brother caught a few over the weekend as well, but none near as long as that. Where in MN?

Damn fine fish. I hope you tore the rest of them up as well.

Sort of. I go fishing with my dad. A typical outing consists of me watching him catch fish while I catch nothing. Well, a buzz from all the beer I drink while watching him catch fish.

now that spring is right around the corner, let's get this thread bumping!

anyways, i've never done any trout fishing but i'm thinking of trying it out a little bit this spring before it gets warmer and i start doing bass fishing. it's supposed to be like 70 degrees tomorrow and they've already stocked some places with trout in my area.

i've never done trout fishing so i have some questions about it and might give it a go tomorrow. well that is, if it's not too early in the season. would going tomorrow, even though it's been cold and snowing the past weeks, would it be worth trying out? or will it most likely be a bust? do trout bite as long as they are in the water?

also, what kind of lures do you use for them? i won't be fly fishing, just a normal spinner reel and rod. yesterday someone told me about a casting spinner or something like that which is good for trout. so i was thinking about that possible but does anyone else recommend anything else? would something like a rooster tail work too? i know some of those are light so how do you cast them further to get a long line out there to try and work it?

and last, as i've never caught a trout before, any tips on how to unhook them? do you just hold them by the mouth like a bass and their mouths just open up wide and you take the hook out?

I grabbed a striper while trollng in my buddies new boat. Sonar is amazing. You can see when you're gonna get bit.

Tackle matters for your target.

27 inch striper, circle hooks only. 12 pound mono. Other guys got broke off. I landed that fish in 8 minutes.

Tackle matters. Ate him that night.

Like my dad always said.

You have to suffer to catch fish

our largest one last year was like 30". so far from what i've seen this year, there are some LARGE ones biting. we're primarily live lining and if we have time after that probably troll a bit. we caught the 30" one just live lining before. we were catching a ton of like 22-26" ones.

You gotta have the tackle to grab fish that big. Pulling in a 7 pound bass isn't exciting in my striper rig.

My mAster fisher buddy worked a 18 pounder. on 8 line. Took him 20 minutes. But

oh yeah, they have that gear on the boat we're taking out. it was fun when the guy had that 30" on his line though, he had to walk all around the boat because the fish was going all around and under the boat. it was just fun to see it and see everyone involved in getting the f out of the way!
