please let this thread die until the spring. i'm getting sad reading it knowing that it is about to snow tomorrow and that i probably won't be able to fish for 2 months or so

It's about time for me to start hitting the crappie bite. Water temps are still low, but towards end of march should be good. Then in late aprile/early may we'll slay the small mouth spawn.

The main lake I fish at has finished their dam work and will raise the water level 20 feet after it being dropped for 7 years. All that brush, trees, grass, shrubs that have been growing on the shore line for 7 years is going to be a freaking jackpot for fish when water is covering it.

Also raising the striped and walleye stocking to 500,000 and 300,000 respectively.

It's going to be a fabulous spring.

-ps- Salt water guide used nothing but a loop knot or sometimes called an "anglers loop" to tie his hooks on instead of the typical palomar or clinch knot. Said it lets the bait run more free/natural. I might give it a shot, we certainly didn't have any trouble with the bite.

Looks fake. No way he could hold it like that. But I can believe a striper could get that big.

The photo is taken at a wacky angle to make the fish look bigger than the guy. Googled it, and there's a video of the guy with the fish here: http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2013/03/dora_man_catches_record_stripe.html

Big ass fish, but nowhere near the size they try to portray with the picture. Also, fish is hung up on a rope, so he's not actually holding it.

20-25 pound stripes aren't uncommon at my lake.

Lake Cumberland Kentucky. When you're on em. Just freaking hold on. Fish after fish after fish. Your arm will wear out from so many fish.

I've gone out 14 times ice fishing.

This last trip out 3 crappies, 14 gills. Lost 1 to a crow, because I ran to my tent to warm up a little. The eyes were pecked out clean. lol!

My pops told me you have to suffer to catch fish.

Well I've suffered plenty in 30 degree days with winds in the 20s and still didn't catch fish.

Ice fishing is a nutter world of suffering I'm not quite ready to believe in.

I caught some nice black drum off a pier in North Carolina last Fall. They were probably in the 3-4lb range and made for some nice plate-sized filets.

I'm in Tennessee and do a lot of lake fishing when I have time off the pontoon or docks, but the past few years have been so warm that fishing in the summer is very hit or miss. (bigger fish go so deep, I'd have to fish off the bottom) I prefer action baits on the top water just because it's more fun. I may start doing deep water rigs off the pontoon in the deep water (40-80') when it gets hot. I just never had much luck with it.

Get some downriggers and mount them off the back of the boat and troll.

wish it was warmer here so i could go fishing. we had a tease last weekend with high 50's but its back to the 40's now. i walked around the lake i usually fish at last weekend with my wife and saw a bunch of people fishing. no one was bringing anything in though, and i didn't see 1 fish jump and we were out there for a good 45 minutes.

I may try that, but don't have a trolling motor on my pontoon boat. I'm trying to decide if I want to drop $500 and mount one.

I typically just hit the coves and drop anchor and am still waiting for the lake to fill up so I can get my boat off the lift. (currently hanging 10 feet above sand right now in the boathouse)

Yep. I mostly catch bass and crappie in freshwater and rainbow trout, croakers, and catfish in saltwater.

Sometimes I get lucky and get a redfish.

Bass fishing is my favorite though.

I've been doing lots of ice fishing this year, I bought myself a bunch of equipoment so I've been putting ti to good use.; Got a tent, sled, 10 lines, a hand drill, insulated minnow bucket and some other shit. I go with one fo my buddies he brings the gas auger and 10 more lines, mostly fish northern pike and walleye. we get the occasional hungry perch to bite as well.

I don't have all my pics in my photobucket but I'll try to upload some others later

28" walleye

Our live fish holder dug out of the ice

Cooking setup for some "grillades" basically non smoked thick sliced bacon with spices, fucking awesome

I didn't get to go this winter, which sucks because it's been relatively mild - perfect for ice fishing!

I admit I don't get why guys want to go out when it's subzero and windy. I don't care how much booze and grills they pack, being drunk and cold is still being cold.

Saving my fishing time until I can make it back down to Florida. Little bro has been working as first mate on a charter in The Keys, they've been slamming the sailsfish and mahi mahi.
