My ex lost my A2 when she lost her purse. That's what I get for putting my stuff in there.

I want the A2 LED at some point. I have the E2DL and E1B, and love them both.

To all the "flashlights are not a hobby" people, while it might not be normal it definitely is a hobby. First off, the higher end flashlights have electronics controlling the output and regulating the light. Also, modding them with aftermarket LED's/bulbs can change the characteristics of it. Oh, and there definitely is a use for various lights. I carry one with me daily, and while I've never needed to use it in a critical situation they can save your life.

As with anything, there can be enjoyment from modding them.

I have a SureFire 6P and a E1B and love it

Thinking of getting a Fenix that uses 1 AA or 2xAA also...

It's cool to have bright lights that you can pack in your daily work bag, your gym bag and to take when camping that you know are going to last and are splash proof . Sick that a mate bought a few cheap ones off ebay (can't remember the brand) but dropped one and it broke and he was lightless on his trip. Not a good situation to be in.

I don't mind spending £££ on a decent light. Different interests for diffferent people. F0ck spending £200 on a graphics card, I won't get any use out of it as I don't game on my pc or dropping £1k on a car brake kit or more. I track my car but with £1k I can do more track days and I'm not up to the level where my brakes are limiting me.

Are you a cop? If so then I see why you would be into flashlights. Do you sit around with other pigs talking about which flashlight is best for beating people over the head with?

Flashlights as a hobby sounds like a joke to me.

I'm not "into flashlights", and you are an idiot.

Funny how you say "get a life people", then right after ask for the same peoples advice.

Kind of shitty IMHO.

I'm looking for the brightest "long distance" (don't really care about flood, or "being seen") Flashlight i can get for $40 shipped.
I've heard good stuff about the MTE Flashlights, what do you guys think of the one this guy is selling? http://cgi.ebay.com/MTE-SSC-P7-D-LE...emQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item2ea9072fde

what would you recommend?

Does it need to be compact and easily portable? Because you can get a big battery powered spotlight from Costco that'll blow any small flashlight out of the water.

Brinkman Maxfire LX, should be less than $20 at Target or Walmart if they still sell them. It's almost an exact replica of a Surefire G2, but it has a clicky tailcap instead of a twisty. You press once to turn it on, press again to turn it off. With a twisty tailcap you push and hold to turn it on, or twist and it'll stay on (then twist back to turn it off).

It's an ideal flashlight for someone who doesn't care about flashlights. It takes CR123A batteries; I suggest getting them from batterystation.com.

idiots who said flashlights can't be a hobby, you're the loser sitting at a computer on a computer forum trolling. you're the losers, loser.

anyway, it does need to be compact and as light as possible. i'm thinking of the MTE/Aurora 900 lumen light from DealExtreme for $35. Anyone have any better deal/price? I know fenix makes great lights, just more expensive that what i want to spend.
Aurora
MTE

i'm also looking for a good set of recharageable batteries for these lights, anyone have recommendations?

No it is not. Your inability to comprehend other peoples' interests is bizarre.

I got a Fenix flashlight on my keychain.. It is brighter than a 3 D-cell maglight. It is ridiculously useful in all sorts of situations.

I'm sure it's extremely useful. For shining light on things just like thousands of other brands of flashlights.

Wow, calm yourself dude. I think people (like myself) don't understand flashlight "hobbyists" because it's just a tool. It's like being a screwdriver hobbyist or a socket wrench hobbyist. I can understand people with vocational interests - eg when my brothers was mechanic-ing, he had a strong interest in good quality tools. But not to the extent of joining forums to discuss the latest Snap On range. That's just weird.

Would you consider someone a computer hobbyist if they just bought a Dell every few years to surf their porn?

Electronics is a hobby. Build your own sweet flashlight using a bunch of parts from Radio Shack, that's a hobby and a cool one at that. Buying a flashlight somebody else made is not a hobby. You're a consumer, not a hobbyist.

Shit, I buy milk every week. Am I a milk hobbyist? There are lots of different types and uses of milk. There's skim, 1%, 2%, whole. You can put it in cereal, bake with it, drink it straight. Sometimes I drink it from a glass, other times I might put some in a Thermos. Damn, I should start a milk forum.

There are plenty of hardware forums where tools are discuused, you just don't know about them.

In regards, to lights. Based on the application, weather conditions, size/weight and many other factors may dictate what kind of light you need.

When I go mountain biking at night, I use one set of lights. Cycling lights can cost hundreds of dollars, shouldn't I go somewhere to get feedback/reviews/etc?

When I go running at night, I use a different set of lights if I'm running along the river and a different one if I'm trail running.

Hobbyist? No. But I do want to know what the best light to buy for the application.

Incorrect. If you buy a single flashlight, maybe. But if you spend time researching, discussing and buying numerous lights b/c you have an interest in them, it's a hobby.

Is collecting baseball cards a hobby or is one just a consumer? Based on your poor definition, one is just a consumer of baseball cards.

Exactly, you're an informed consumer. Not a hobbyist. Nothing wrong with that.

What's odd is considering flashlights a hobby.

Not really. If you read the candlepowerforums, many folks have been able to modify existing lights - replacing the type of bulb, battery types, etc to get brighter lights, longer battery life, able to keep it's charge in cold weather, etc... b/c no current light exists or is too expensive.

In regards to bike lighting, many folks have developed their own ghetto light systems to save money, develop a better product and/or b/c it's a hobby.
