Any full-time students with a full-time job too?

How do you do it? I will probably be starting school next year, but will have to get a job for a couple months before school starts. I am debating whether I should try to do both full time or just get a part time job...

Part time job would've been better for me. The full time job made it hard to get to the parties before the kegs were all foamy....

Like 70% of the students here work full time and go to school full time. Kinda a poor area, folks just can't afford it otherwise.

I don't party anymore, hopefully that will give me more time for school.

I'd suggest starting off slow. If you can go your first quarter/semester and just focus on school. Then the 2nd quarter/semester get a part time job ... if you feel comfortable you can try and find more hours.

Starting off with a full time job and full time school is a LOT of work and it's pretty hard. Hell, I struggle with a part time job but I gotta have the job to pay for school and I gotta keep in school so I don't end up working this dead end job all my life.

Well, I need at least a part time job so I can eat, so that is not really an option.

Try and find something on campus if you can help it. They work around your schedule and you usually get some sort of discount (I know if you work at the bookstore here you get mad discounts on your textbooks).

Also depends on what your job is. I was the IT person for a small company, and didn't have work to do all the time. So I had some time to do homework, at work. Besides the company gave me some tuition reimbursement, so they were sort of paying for me to go to school anyway. If you work somewhere that you can't get school work done at work, it will be a lot more difficult.

When in college I took between 15-18 hours of credit every semester and I worked at least 32 hours a week. It was the only way I could pay for my education. Of course my education still hasn't gotten me a job since I have graduated......

I work 25 very-flexible hours a week...also, I do ROTC which is like another major (or two) in itself

at my work there is a shift that is 2 12 hour shifts saturday and sunday and you get paid for 36 hours then you come in during the week to make up your extra 4

i couldn't do it, but some students do.

these days, you have to practically be a full time student to keep a full time job, particularly in IT.

did it for 3 years straight. worked 40 hours and took about 18-21 hours per semester. it was hard, very hard but im glad i did it

I'm doing it right now....it sucks but it is nice to have the cash. 3 more weeks and I am eligible for tuition reimbursement from work - $7200 a year. Sweet.

When I was in school (graduated in Summer 2002), I worked anywhere from 40-60 hours a week. I messed up my for the first two semesters because I worked so much.

Sort of. Full time hours, but not a full time job per se. Worked about 30 hours a week at my internship, and then put in another 15 hours a week on campus in the IT dept.

I work 40+ hours a week, and go to school 25. It seems overwhelming at first, but you adapt. I would recommend at least trying it out, and seeing how you do.

Pulled 6 courses per semester and did data processing for a bank at night.
1 hr drive to/from school
Work started at 5PM and finished when the work was done or 7AM when the day shift arrived.

PS. Had a family of 3 kids & 2 in-laws.

Got my BSEE in 5 years along with all the classes need for a MS.

i have 20 hours of class a week now, so im gonna be looking for a part-time to full time job soon.

I'm doing that right now. I work full time + some overtime and am a full time student. I'm relegated to take classes during the night because I have the usual workshift of about 7AM-4PM and go to school M-Th 5PM-10PM. At first, it won't be easy but as long as you stay focused you will be able to do it. I even managed to squeeze some time so I can play in my company softball league.

Its a co-op school. You go to classes for 3 months, then work for 3 months. Its a 4.5 year program but at the end you have a job at the company you have been working for and you already have 2 years of REAL work experience and seniority. You get PAID for you work terms too, its not an internship. Usually its $10-$15 and hour 40 hours a week. It ends up being $10,000-15,000 a year towards the $25,000 tuition (its private). It is very expensive to go there but they do offer and extensive scholarship program awarding you up to $40,000 over the first 4 years (after that you have thesis terms which are cheaper). I am a freshman 1 right now on my first work term. I already did one semester of classes and it was CRAZY. They pack a whole semesters worth of stuff into 11 weeks. I bet no other college has mid terms 4 weeks into the semester!

Its a fairly selective school but if you are on AT you must be fairly intelligent . The minimum ACT score is 27 and the minimum GPA is 3 AFAIK. I would check the website for more details. The one downside of the school is the location. Flint Michigan, the armpit of america. Worst city in the US like 4 years in a row or something. The city itself is bankrupt. The plus side of that is no cops . Right around the campus its pretty nice though.

yep, currently doing it this semester. 16 units, 40 hours at work. but this semester, i took my classes online. and then i have a bunch of free time at work, and im a over the phone technician, so i dont get too busy. so i just do my homework there and come home and rest for the days im off. talk about killing 2 birds with 1 stone.

Wow, you must have never slept! When did you study? Or are you one of those that doesn't need too.

It's only me and my wife, full time job, and one class and that's OK but I think what it would be like if I took say 3 classes! I'm actually working on my EE too! One thing I have going for me, I already have a BS in Manufacturing Engineering so I only have the upper division stuff for my EE. Part of my problem is I don't have the same drive that I did when I was in college the first time, but I'm going to step up my class load here soon.
