Any games in the horizon that will prompt you to upgrade?

I guess I'd have to answer no, though games are definitely what push me to upgrade my graphics card. There's a few games I'm looking forward to, but none that I think my GTX 470 won't handle.

The thing is...if a new game is going to push the current top-of-the-line card, then even THAT card won't satisfy what I WANT to see for that game. So I gotta wait til there's even better cards. Then there's usually an awesome price-per-performance king which handles the previous gen games great, while the new top-of-the-line is again overkill for those games and not good enough for the next "Crysis" game we're anxiously awaiting. A vicious cycle, so I try to use a little patience (oh it's tough though).

I normally upgrade based on budget instead of a particular game release. I usually buy top-end single-chip from the last generation (I got my 4890 just before the 5870 came out) and skip a generation between upgrades, so I'm usually not in a position where a new game is unplayable. I broke my trend with the 460 but it was just too good a deal.

Just wondering. I'm sure Crysis 2 will push the envelope as did the original, but if you don't play FPS, is there anything out there that would make you upgrade your Radeon 5xxx or Nvidia 4xx?

Crysis 2 might prompt me to buy another GTX 460 for SLI, depending on how cheap I can get one for. Heck, Crysis 1 has been tempting me to upgrade!

Still wondering why flight simulators aren't used more for benchmarking... They tax both video AND CPU...

well on wiki gw 2 said it was gonna run on the havok engine so i think a ati 5xxx/6xxx series will run it well. It can already run sc2 pretty well so I think diablo 3 will be ok. other games I'm out of my scope.

I'm real curious to see what BF3 will bring to the table. As of right now, I would think my 5850 & GTX 470 would be up to the task, but who knows. If not, I'll probably just double up on both.

X-Plane 10 might require a faster CPU, as flight sims are usually pretty CPU intensive. Unfortunately I can't really afford to upgrade until after this summer, when I know whether I'll have a job or not.

I might upgrade for Skyrim, but I have a feeling it will run pretty well on my current system. It's an RPG, so you don't necessarily need 60+ FPS all the time. The first time I played Oblivion, I only had a single-core Athlon64 and X800XT, but the game was still enjoyable at 10-20 FPS.

Crysis 2 and BF3 if I can't max them. If that's the case I'll probably go with a 6990, a new Sandy CPU, and update my water loop if I have time.
