Any games like BF2 but not BF2?

so you've never bought BF2? how would you know about the gameplay if you haven't even played it?

I played the 2142 demo. Same game, different setting.

Are you sure you don't want BF2 if you want a game just like BF2?

I don't see how the patches made gameplay any worse... most were fixing retarded crap that people exploited way too much for points. I think it's a pretty damn good game right now. I'd like to see a couple of changes still (which I will save you all the rant of for another thread) but its certainly awesome where it stands right now.

I used to play Joint Ops a lot, but not much lately. Not a bad game or anything, just the little gaming time I have is with BF2 right now. But really it's about the closest you'll get to BF2. At least they have an idea of game balance and don't have overpowered armor, air, or artillery in JO at least. At $20 it's hard to go wrong, but you can always check out the demo. I guess it's kind of like BF2 though, cause there's only a few maps I really enjoy playing. Some monsterous map full of islands is annoying as hell cause it's just a big stalemate. The small to medium sized maps or CQB ones for BF2 and JO I like the most.

But I also recommend DoD:S still as an excellent MP game not like BF2. UT2004 Onslaught as well as Tribes 1/2 are excellent team games as well, but not in the BF2 setting.

They are having a hard time finding a publisher for the North American market.

Often times publishers want things such as the rights to the name of a game. This is in fact the very reason why Armed Assault is named as it is instead of Operation Flashpoint 2. Codemasters was the publisher for Operation Flashpoint and they ended up owning the rights to the name.

Codemasters and BIS (Bohemia Interactive Studios) had a bit of a falling out, so BIS had to come up with a new name for their new game-and of course a new publisher. This is the basis for a lot of confusion, because there are 3 new games being developed now. The three games are Armed Assault, Operation Flashpoint 2, and ?game 2?. Codemasters has been developing Operation Flashpoint 2 themselves (as far as I know). Since they basically own the name Operation Flashpoint, their game will be under the name OFP 2.

The next game in question is Armed Assault, which is the true successor to Operation Flashpoint. Armed Assault is based on the same game engine as the one used in Operation Flashpoint, but with many enhancements. It is being developed by BIS. The release date for this game has been continuously pushed back but I think its release is imminent at this point.

The third game does not have an official name yet (as far as I know), so it is simply referred to as ?game 2?. Game 2 is from BIS and it is based on a new game engine. Personally I do not expect to see game 2 (under whatever final name it is under) available for at least two years, maybe even longer.

DOD Source: Its fun for about 30 minutes, but the area is just small, with no point to the game, die respawn die respawn, it seems you are constantly dying since there is no place to hide and play strategically.

Enemy Territory: Fun game and free, But is it just me or are the charcters moving too fast? I used to play this 2 years ago and recently fired up the game again and could not get over the way people raced across the area.



Right now my online gaming is purely Conter Strike Source I think it has the best balance with regards to player movement and weapon strenght. Its also fun when peopl actually play as a team. I am still pretty bad at it though.

ArmA looks pretty good. Can't believe they dont have a US publisher...maybe they should sell it through Steam like COD2.

And I tend to disagree about 1942. I think its actually better than BF2 in a lot of ways, especially the scale of the maps. And anti-air actually works. Desert Combat mod is pretty cool as well.

Joint Ops is pretty good, most people are playing the semi-official IC mod so you'd need the expansion pack too. America's Army is a really good game and the price is right, but if you like to jump and shoot I don't think you'd like it, its a lot more rigorous (I won't say realistic) than BF2.
