Any Ghostscript users out there?

I posted this in programing. Someone suggested I might have better luck here.

I've been working on a script to convert text files to pdf, then slap the newly created pdf onto the last page of an already existing pdf document. The script works fine. I wrote it in PERL. I'm shelling out to ghostscript to merge the pdf's. The problem is when ghostscript merges the two pdfs, the merged pdf is missing any layer in the original pdfs.

So does anyone know of a switch for ghostscript to maintain the layers? Or if not of a command line utility I can use to merge the pdf that will maintain the layers?

I know it's a long shot, but heres hoping...
