Yeah. The Witcher Enhanced Edition was just released. I plan on getting it soon.

Not being able to customize your character ruins it. Having a weird name, and stuck with white hair is stupid.

Maybe my sarcasm meter is turned off....but that's some pretty lame criticism.

Why? Witcher puts you in the role of an established character. Other games allow you to customize your hero's appearance and back story. Obviously he is looking for the latter.

i agree with FirewolfX, that's some pretty lame criticism,

I concur with Titan Quest + Immortal Throne. Out of the package, the game can occupy your time until D3 comes out.
If that's still not good enough, there is mods (xmax) to the game that enhances the challenge by increasing the monsters 10x and plus battling 3x bosses. If this is not even enough, there is a newest mod (double-or-nothing+xmax) which increases the monster difficulty by a level. The regular game difficulty mode is (Normal>Epic>Legendary). With the double-or-nothing+xmax, the difficulty mode is now: Epic>Legendary>uber legendary (whatever it is).

I loved D2, but I hated Titan Quest. Such a piece of crap game. Definitely try it before you buy it.

It was enough for me to decide not to buy after the demo. Seriously, an RPG without character appearance custimization.

Anyone else? Probably gonna give titan quest a try from the feedback and some screenshots I've seen - it really does look like an updated D2 clone.

Titan Quest + Expansion only costs $19.99. It's not the end of the world if you happen not to like it after playing.
I love D2, but I love TQ/IT more. Here is a brief background how Titan Quest/Immortal Throne conceived. The owner of Iron Lore --the developer for TQ/IT-- was a fan of Blizzard's Diablo series. He was very disappointed when Blizzard didn't announce the continuation of the diablo series. So he went ahead and formed Iron Lore to create a game that plays like Diablo. He was basically hired developers to intimately play Diablo 2 and LoD to get a feel of weakness and strongest. And then use those knowledge to create TQ/IT.

Would "Mass Effect" be considered an Action RPG? It's probably more of an fps/action than an RPG, but I still think that it's in large part an RPG...

Anyway, I highly recommend it, having passed the whole game fairly recently. Not the best I ever played by a long shot, but still a very good, memorable, and enjoyable game.

Just got Titan quest, haven't gotten expansion yet. This is perfect until D3.

Question: should I get/install expansion (does it alter the original?) or just play the original through?

Also, I haven't gone online yet, but is the multiplayer kind of like Diablo? Are SP/MP characters different?

Yep, I'd qualify Mass Effect. There are a lot of dialogue options and side quests, which add to the RPG part.

Install the expansion immediately. Definately worth it. Expansion alters the original heavily. Playing without the expansion has a few drawbacks. Iron Lore addressed a good few with IT.

You get a Caravan with a Transfer Bank. You can transfer items between characters using the Caravan man in most towns.

Artifacts drop (they did not exist in TQ). Similar to the Cube Receipes n D2, you need certain ingredients to complete them. For example, you might get the Artifact: Shadowball and that requires a Scroll of the Cyclops, Completed Embodiment of Zeus' Thunderbolt (parts of this drop at random off most mobs) and Boar Hide (Completed charm, received off Boars). Hand all of these to an Enchanter and you create the artifact. They give some pretty mean bonuses.

Greater/Divine Artifacts require higher level charms/scrolls and often require a lesser artifact as an ingredient.

If you want it, Dream Mastery is opened up in IT. A good skillset to choose from which compliments most other skillsets well for melee and ranged characters alike.

IT opens up Act 4 also. Like when you killed Diablo in LoD, you were given access to Act 5.... once you complete TQ (Act 3), you will then move straight onto Act 5.

Yea I just did that ... question, if/when you play online, do your offline characters get treated the same way online? IE can you level offline and then jump into an online game?

IIRC, it plays like Open Bnet style.

You use your locally stored characters online. Got my Conqueror to level 40 the other day then got freight trained by Civ 4 Complete and Colonization so I havent tried online this time and Im only going off what I think I did last time.

The vast majority of Role Playing Games I have played do not include character customization. Most of them are like this one, where you are playing a particular role, and there is a particular situation you are thrust into. Some are more open ended than others, but if it was too open ended, it wouldn't be a game, it would just be a virtual life.

And download TQ Vault. It will make your gaming experience more fun when you can actually complete relics and stuff I'm trying to get through IT on epic right now.

I like games like Bioshock; quick, simple, sorta mindless fun. (esp after working full time, travel, grad school, etc.)

I tried Oblivion and FF12 (PS2) but it was too much "thought" involved.

I'll give Mass Effect and TQ a shot

Divine Divinity & the sequel (DD2) and Sacred. All should be available in bargain bins by now. I've played DD and Sacred and they're good D2 knockoffs.

Sacred 2 is an action rpg. It's due out next week. http://www.sacred2.com/

Was just about to mention this. The demo is out, it's pretty good.

yea I played around with the original Sacred, picked it up at walmart for $10.. but I got TQ shortly thereafter and it got my attention. I'd suspect Sacred 2 should definately be worth some play time. Pretty much same style as TQ and Diablo.

I was a Diablo fanboy. When I got TQ, i really began to think TQ was the better game. More diverse story, better graphics, finetuned gameplay, etc.. But now that D3 is coming out and IronLore is shutdown, I suspect D3 will reign again.

Hum. Wizardry 8 was pretty good but after 8 or 9 plays it became a bit boring (map is fairly static - mods are not really feasible - yes there are a few but they are not really supported).

Target has divine divinity for sale for around $8 (clearance so it won't be around much longer). I have a love hate relationship with this game. I'm mid way through my second play (played it once before 4 or 5 years ago). It is ok but the graphics kind of suck and it is hard to spot some thing.

Baulder Gate 2 was a lot of fun - with lots of action. I never did quite finish baulder gate 1 - it was a bit slow paced - graphics kind of suck in both of these game but at least 2 has a high-light button (i forget which key it is).

I like TQ. I was collection what'cha call it in the expension but seemed to always be one short of a set. Havne't played it for about 8 months (after 11 or 12 runs it kind of got boring - static map and all).

There should be two new NWN2 properties this year - teh expansion and some campaign that is sitting around waiting for them to figure out DRM.

Hum. And fallout 3 next month. Right now i'm playing King's bounty - I'll probably play it a second time with another class at a harder level - but it is a *long* game (on order of baulder gate 2). Hum. I have witcher sitting around waiting to play. So many games so little time.

yea I've been playing TQ:IT for a bit now, it's fun so far. I'll probably beat it then play it again with the xmax/double-or-nothing mods. I'll give sacred2 a try. I think D3 is gonna pwn though, but I definitely agree that TQ:IT (at least graphically) is far superior to D2. Too bad the company shut down.

Sacred 2 demo just came out, and it's terrible. Diablo 3 will be the only game that can scratch the itch that burns you.
