Any good broadband alternatives to DSL/cable? Upload speed important

So I just got a house in Alexandria and have comcast cable modem and its HORRIBLE. They cap down at 1.5 and up at 256 or something. And I can't get my speakeasy 1.5/768 because apparently there is a DLC (digital loop carrier, i.e fiber) on my line which prevents (A)(S)DSL (and IDSL is CRAP). Verizon has absolutely no idea when they'll offer dsl here (if ever, which I doubt) and when I was able to get a tech to open up a little he admitted he had never heard of Verizon ponying up the cash to install the costly filters anywhere; so chances are they will NEVER offer DSL here.

Do I have any other broadband alternatives? I'm willing to go up to around $150 a month but the upload has got to be at least around 500 or more. T1 is WAY too expensive for less bandwidth. And I can't think of any other good broadband alternatives so i pose the question to you all hoping there are some more knowledgeable than me.

You may want to check with your cable operator regarding commercial accounts. I know our residential service has limited uploads, but the commercial services offer a much wider ranger of both up and downstream bandwidths.

Unfortunately the commercial services are capped at 2 down / 384 up. Comcast is the WORST cable company I have ever had. I am amazed that I am remembering Time Warner in NYC fondly.

I have a HD cable box and the HD channels are hidden all over the place. Time Warner at least had them have their own hundred block (the 700s). Comcast's movie on demand browser is ridiculously slow and clunky. The software version on the cable box is MORONIC; when you hit guide it defaults to bringing you to channel 1 two hours ahead of current time instead of current channel current time.

Comcast just took over in our area... thanks for the heads up. <sigh>

Sadly, other than a T1, I'm at a loss for suggestions.

Yeah, I'm trying to get a job for a wireless ISP right now, it's a new startup on the side of their dialup business. Wireless starts at 256/256 and can go much faster if you pay for it.
