i enjoyed The Last Remnant, although the combat/party system can get VERY complicated if you want an uber group. i had to resort to guides to even start to understand the whole system and the advantages/disadvantages of the various formations.

i definitely got my money's worth..over 100hrs clocked for like a $10 game.

The Last Story (Wii) game. Technically it's not a PC game. I actually own a Wii, though, so I played it on a Wii. I haven't played Ni No Kuni, but before that game came out I'd be willing to say that The Last Story is the best Modern JRPG to date. The story is good. The combat system is even better. There's a ton of different ways to play it and, while it's very fast paced, there's a lot of depth to be had with it.

It's also one of the most beautiful games on the Wii. With a Wii emulator...it might be even better.

Xenoblade is also good, though I wouldn't rate it as high as TLS. Suffers from the same "let's make all the characters act like idiot teenagers for comic relief" syndrome that most JRPG's suffer from, but it's still quite endearing.

Good story?.... Not at all. The characters were boring and had no depth to them at all. Outside of the 2 main characters there was very little information about the world, the beastmen, etc... and this is taking into account of you doing every single little side quest and talking to almost everyone.

Looks nice but it was fairly shallow and I was somewhat disappointed by the lack of depth in the battles as well. The only challenging mob was the first boss.

Phantasy Star Universe and Ambition of The Illuminus single player story mode is pretty decent, its action not turn based.

I've gotten pretty far into Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time (emulated), but have recently lost incentive to continue further.

After enjoying every minute of Tales of the Abyss, I find myself playing through SO3 merely for the sake of it. The characters are completely forgettable, music is "meh", dungeons annoying... I'm failing to see how this is as popular as it is.

Being space-themed, I was kind of hoping for a Phantasy Star-esque kind of story. Phantasy Star 4 (Genesis) was - by far - my favourite JRPG of the 16-bit era.

I had the same issue with SO3. SO2 I thought was better (PSX). If you liked TotA, try Tales of Legendia. It's pretty good as well. Also if you like space themes, try Xenosaga series..be warned it's pretty heavy handed in the religious aspects, but it's a great series.

Tales of Graces F if you have a PS3. Sunk 100+ hours into it a year ago.

Looking forward to Tales of Xillia for PS3. Also need to get Ni No Kuni.

that might be the 1 thing that will have me get a Vita. i was pissed the PSP. it was kinda waste of cash.

I was contemplating getting Tales of Legendia, but felt reluctant as Abyss' battle system was rumoured to be better. I truly miss the outstanding dialogue though, so Legendia it is! To hell with SO3.

I've actually played through Xenogears (love the digs into religion) pretty far up into disc 4. Got stuck at what I believe to be the last boss, only to realize that my characters weren't leveled enough. This is my biggest pet peeve amongst JRPGs. I would rarely skip fights, and STILL be 10+ levels under what I should be, leading to utter frustration along the way.

Grinding =! gameplay

EDIT: LOVED Suikoden I and II!
