Yep, I think she's a pretty good singer-songwriter like Aimee. Or like Tori Amos before she got too daffy, though Tori was somewhat daffy from day 1.

By the way the new Aimee Mann CD with Ted Leo as The Both is great. There's an NPR Tiny Desk mini-concert on YouTube with them doing several songs live.

Ugh, Bruno Mars is so terrible. I mean, sure, he's talented and all, but I can't stand any song of his I've ever heard. At all.

No problem. I hear a lot of current pop because I have kids, 9 and 14. I don't buy Bruno Mars albums, but I like that he can actually sing, dance, and play drums....not the auto-tune and nursery rhyme rap that's everywhere these days. Bruno would be a star in any decade.

Artist that released their first stuff after '08? Or can it be artists from any period that have put out good stuff since '08?
A lot of the newer stuff I like is new artist mining the past, but in a way that sounds fresh. Mark Ronson, Bruno Mars are good examples. In the rock arena, check out Rival Sons. Heavy 70s influence, but rock in their own way. Ed Sheeran is talented. If you like funk, and you should, check out Quantic Soul Orchestra.

And some stuff isn't new, but can be new to you. Blows me away when I hear new stuff that is 20 years old. Where the EFF has this been all my life. Fela Kuti

another old one: id suggest toots and the maytals if you are into reggae. once i heard them on my bob marley pandora station i deleted that stupid station and tweaked one with the maytals.
