If there are good discussion on newer high end rigs people have built, can you link them here?

Gaming rigs, workstations, etc .... it doesn't matter. I am just curious of what people are doing with large budgets.

This was built a fortnight or so back as a gaming box:

- i7 4770 non K
- Noctua U14S
- Gigabyte H87
- Sapphire 280X
- 16GB DDR3 1600MHz

Maybe not high end, but certainly "higher" end. I don't overclock anymore. That Noctua is to keep things chilled as the stock heatsink is horrific.

This is too general of a question for anyone to really help you, you'll need to be a little more specific if you want any information. Are you looking for ideas for a new build? What do you consider to be a "large" budget?

If you want to see what is out there in general, do a search for the build guides that various sites post every couple months. They generally start with budget, midrange and "extreme" systems and range from $1k-$3k. Other places like MaximumPC and LinusTechTips sometimes do "extreme" builds or "dream machines" if you just want to see what's ridiculous. Otherwise I can't really help you without more info.

Here is what I'm looking at this month:

Intel i7-4770k
Asus Maximus VI formula
Cooler Master Glacer 240L
Corsair AX1200i
Corsair Vengeance Pro 16-32gb 1866
Corsair 750d
EVGA GTX 780 or 780ti x2
Samsung 840 pro 256gb SSD x2
WD black 2TB HDD
QNIX QX2710 1440p OCed to 120hz
Noctua Fans

That's totals up to around $4k but doesn't include some of the extras like an Individually Sleeved Cable kit, the 24AWG cable, a new WASD keyboard, a Fnatic Sensei mouse, etc. I'm still up in the air on a couple of the minor things like case fans (I hate the look of the Noctua fans but the performance is amazing). I primarily game, but I also do some video editing/encoding and software development.

Someone who uses Photoshop will be sporting things a bit differently than those craving a gaming rig, video editing rig, or some system with a ton of virtual machines. Not only is there "high end" consumer hardware products, but there are also enterprise or professional grade products like Nvidia Quadro graphics cards, enterprise SSDs, enterprise HDDs like Seagate's Constellation series.

Even if I thought you were trying to be rude I wouldn't be offended

That price is in Cdn $ with express shipping, extra insurance, and taxes. I also have a bunch of frilly add-ons like LED case fans, case lighting, and some other extra's. For me at the end of the day I'm a very happy camper and look forward to a couple years of service before the next major upgrade lol.

Lol, I'm not concerned with whether you are offended.

How much was the build itself without tax? No insurance or express shipping.

Just like i'm not concerned about my build meeting your pricing qualifications.

Why 2 SSD's and then a HDD? Scratch disk or something?

The smaller is for my OS/Permanent programs, and the larger is for games/game footage for rendering.
