i cant afford a couple boxes at a time, well i can but .380 is in short supply everywhere so i don't want to be stingy. I went with the PMC and put 50 rounds through and it jammed a few times though.

Not surprising, cheap guns can be troublesome. I'd also recommend you concentrate on how you hold the gun when you shoot it. Don't weak wrist it and let the muzzle flip up and see if that doesn't help with it jamming.

You really need to put a few hundred rounds through it minimum before you can really rely on it though...just my opinion. Honestly, this is why I recommend revolvers for new gun owners. They are extremely reliable so it just comes down to learning how to shoot it accurately.

i had an lcr before this which i sold, and bought this. i didn't really like the lcr because it felt funky in my hand, i had this problem with a taurus judge? when i didnt my CCW classes. I hold the gun like this http://i263.photobucket.com/albums/ii159/DacoRoman_photos/thumbforward.jpg (not my picture) as that is how i was taught, but i see some people putting a finger on the front of the trigger guard.

I've got one, good pocket gun.

I use it as a main carry very rarely.
Usually it's a backup.

I have no problem with your philosophy because you obviously are a more dedicated cc person. In a lot of cases (mine included) the larger gun eventually gets left at home or in the glove compartment.

However, can we agree that a small caliber weapon is better than no weapon at all? My current plan is to cary a .380 and a defense knife as a backup. I understant that it is not an optimal solution but it is practical for me.

OP, I also have an antique Walthers Model 4 that I use cheap ammo in. its almost a hundred years old and works just fine on Blazer ammo.

I own a Glock 17 (have owned it since 1994) and I've put at least a couple thousand rounds through it. The Glock 17 is probably one of the most forgiving handguns on the entire planet to shoot...and probably one of the most reliable.

Don't go by a picture of some asshole holding a gun you don't own on the interweb. Buy a few boxes of ammo and go to the range. It may take a couple hundred rounds to loosen it up and then you'll begin to get a feel for it. Experiment with different ammo. You have to practice practice practice anyway. It's a learning experience.

yeah i was just using it for illustration, thats how they taught us how to hold it at my ccw class. i really wish there was more ammo available, i got the bersa on monday, and they had no .380 in stock till thursday night, i came in this afternoon and there were maybe 5 boxes left total. i guess people are still stockpiling ammo from earlier this year, i thought it had passed already

I wouldn't worry about it. Just buy it when you can find it...I wouldn't bother stockpiling it.

I've owned handguns for almost 20 years now and I probably have less than 200 rounds for each handgun I own currently. I generally keep enough on hand to go to the range whenever I want and little more.

yeah i don't think im going to stockpile ammo for this thing as of right now i only have 2 clips worth of ammo but the range near my house gives you a free day every 10th time you go so its incentive to go often.

I think every handgun I own gave me trouble the first hundred rounds, up to the first cleaning. Limp wristing does a lot to affect the ability of the slide to fully function, as well. If you already have a full size gun, I'm betting that the small size of the Bersa has a lot to do with it - lots of adjustment to your grip.

.380 is expensive and hard to find, but you've already bought the gun, so...I've heard good things about the Thunder though, so I don't think you've made a bad choice.

The only pistol I've had problems with is my Walther P22 when it came to jamming, and that is a common problem with cheap ammo and the P22. When it comes to 9mm, .380, .32, .565, etc I've never had problems with ammo.

FWIW, I plan on getting a Ruger LCP. I think you will find a lot of people talking about carying heavy metal but they actually carry 0. With a small cc in your posession you wont violate the 1st rule of gunfighting.

Exactly why I picked up an LCP. My other handguns were a little too large to carry comfortably and concealed especially in the summer. My thoughts were better to have something on me instead in the car or at home because of concealment issues.

If you pick up an LCP I highly recommend the "Recluse" pocket holsters. Top quality leather, great safe design for pocket carry and definitely hides the outline of the pistol, fast shipping too. https://www.recluseholster.com/index.php

One other thing, Speer Gold Dots are one of the few with consistent expansion and penetration of the .380's rounds. They are the ones I use when carrying.

do you like your lcp? i felt it was too small for my hands when i was shooting it, and felt as if it was going to crumble in them

I hear you. I don't think there's anything wrong with using it as a main carry, because it is better than nothing, as you pointed out.
When I wear light shorts, that's what I take.
If I wear anything with a belt, I am taking a bigger gun because it's not (usually) an inconvenience.
And remember - comforting, not comfortable.

Love it, I never leave home without it. It's strictly a self defense weapon, but at 7 to 10 yards it groups good enough to put em all in the torso, (or paper plate). I'm not deluding my self about the stopping power of a .380 but I'm also confident when loaded with with Gold Dots it will put a serious hurt on someone if I ever have to use it, (which I hope is never). One thing I would recommend to anyone who has an LCP is to get the Pearce Grip extentions, It's worth the $10 and makes the LCP fit your hands better.

On a side note, Ruger kind of stole the design from Kel-Tec's P-3AT and improved it slightly. If your looking for something a little smaller than what you have the Kel-tec's not a bad gun and about $50 cheaper than the Ruger.

Yup, looks almost exactly the same as the Kel-Tec.
I sort of bought my LCP accidentally.

I went to a local store and saw that he had it on display. So I asked to look at it.
I play around with it, hand it back to him, and say: "You know, if you had any .380 ammo in stock, I'd be forced to buy this!"
Guy starts grinning ear to ear and points behind himself to a pile of 380 boxes.
So I went home with the LCP and 300 rounds of 380. LOL.

I am actually pretty impressed with the accuracy of it. I can usually hit pop cans at 10 yards without trouble.

i was thinking about getting an lcp, maybe for summer carry, but thats a while off. ive seen pocket holsters for the bersa but i think i'm going to go with a belt clip or paddle, they look easily concealable if you dont tuck your shirt in, or are wearing a jacket.
