Any hoarders here?

I've watched a couple episodes of that show 'Hoarding-Buried Alive' and it kind of makes you realize how much worthless shit you hang onto. I had to clean out 3 bedrooms, and office, and all the closets to have new carpet installed and man, I didn't realize how much worthless junk we have been hanging onto. Stuff we haven't even looked at in probably 5-10 years.

Needless to say, we've spent a fair amount of time going through all that stuff and I've personally taken two car loads of bags and boxes to Goodwill already along with 26lbs of old computer parts I've been hanging onto-that went to recycling.

I don't think we're anywhere near hoarding level but we do have a lot of shit.

I've moved numerous times (more than 8) in the last 10 years or so. I get tired of moving shit I don't really need, so throw a lot out each time I move.

That show fascinates me, as does the other one. One is on TLC the other is on A&E. I couldn't stand to live like those people...

Nope, but daddy is. Our basement, backyard and the attic are filled with his shit. My room use to be too until I wanted to clean it up. Been living with it my entire life, not cool. He went crazy once when we were renovating, had a large garbage tank and threw away a load o his scrap steel. Oh, he was ready to kill, and I'm not kidding.

After watching a few episodes and listening to the people, I'm pretty sure I have some hoarding tendencies. I will definitely have to keep myself in check by purging crap on occasion.

Sometimes it just the cost deal that makes me keep crap. I hate having computer stuff thats worth 1% of what I paid for it, so I keep it. I know the money has already been lost, but its difficult to admit.

I'll also fall for crap on the clearance shelf at Staples or something. One hundred ink pens for 50 cents? Awesome, you can always use a good ink pen.

My car is clean inside, nothing on the seats, floor, etc... My desk at work is the same way.

I do not understand the point. If you don't/wont use it or look at it, and you know you'll forget about it, you shouldn't have it.

I'm not stupid necessarily about disposing though.. If it's worth something I'll make sure it ends up in the right hands. Otherwise.. Trash!

My car is spotless, as is my bike. My garage on the other hand seems to devolve into a place to collect shit as do all the closets in my house. I didn't even realize how much crap I had until I had to move everything out of the rooms in my house (most of it found its way into my garage).

More shit needs to go.

Yes, I have a bad habit of not getting rid of stuff. I had a whole closet full of boxes at one point because I kept them just in case I had to return something.

I also tend to never get rid of hobby parts. I still have bits from computers, RC airplanes. Though I do tend to recycle those into new projects. As bad as I am, my dad is far worse than me. Not only does he hoard, he's extremely messy. Never puts anything away.

Damn. Forgot about this. Ya, I horde ammo and items in RPG or games with inventories. I don't think I ever complained about ammo shortages in Fallout 3 or any of the 3 Stalkers. I had at least 5000 of each round type by the end of Fallout 3, and at least 1000 of each in Stalker.

My Morrowind house had piles of books and one of each item type...

Not in terms of the medical condition no. No where near. But yeah I tend to hang on to a lot of useless shit. Just cleaned out my room the other day and got rid of a shit load of stuff, all of which will be donated to some type of charity or recycled. Except for about 2-300 CDs and DVDs that I should have thrown away long ago.

Stuff does accumulate but it never gets too bad. Every once in a while I do a purge and get rid of a bunch of crap. Each time I look at one of those items and think: "I'm keeping this for a reason, and I might need it some day so I should keep it."

But then I realize it's been sitting in the closet unnoticed for a few years and I never think about it. So I toss it. And if you asked me what any of those items were today, I wouldn't be able to tell you.

I'm a habitual pack-rat...I need a horde of youse OCD motherfuckers to come clean out my garage...I have one thin path from the roll-up door to the door into the house...the rest is packed FULL of shit...Part is stock for the next garage sale... part needs to get hauled off to the electronic recycler, but most is either going into the trash...or to salvation army.
