I have a lot of crap in my garage that has been sitting there for almost four years. I am about to just throw it all out. I haven't had the need to look at it once since I have lived here. I obviously do not need the stuff.

I know the people on those shows have a mental disorder but it is still amazing listening to them say "yes, things are a bit cluttered" as they stand atop a 3 ft pile of garbage and contort their bodies around, over and through the stuff to move around the house. Every time I watch I am motivated to clean out another cabinet or closet.

She is in charge of the upstairs, a mess of shit all over the walls, nic-nacs (sp?) all over the place, and every section of open wall must have something against it. Also her choice in paint is a little questionable.

I get the downstairs. Very minimal, neutral colors. Very open and clean looking. I can fit all of my "excess" stuff into an average sized box.

I tend to keep stuff, but I have gotten better in the last 5 years or so. Now i get a little glee when sh!tcanning stuff.
We are being really good about large things. We purchased a new travel trailer, the old tent trailer goes tomorrow.
I have a new truck, the old truck will get put on craigslist next week.

I'm not a hoarder, but when I needed to raise money fast I was shocked at how much junk I had in my closets, shelves etc. Sold tons of stuff on Craigslist. It's amazing at what I found to sell. And, it's amazing what people actually paid money to buy.

Its hard for me to throw some shit away because in the back of my mind I think there could be a time where I would need it. I hate having any sort of clutter, though, so I force myself to just throw it away.

Same thing kinda happens in games, I never use items until I absolutely can't get past something without using them.

I would consider myself the opposite of a hoarder...and my wife is not far behind. When we move though, I'm stills shocked at how much junk there is stuck in places we've forgotten. What saddens me more is the fact that we purchased some of this junk...what a waste.

After watching a few episodes and listening to the people, I'm pretty sure I have some hoarding tendencies. I will definitely have to keep myself in check by purging crap on occasion.

same for me. i could easily be a hoarder, but when i get into that mode i have to really concentrate on getting rid of some useless crap around the house. i dont think id ever want to make (or want) my kids live like the people ive seen on that show.

I love to read so I have a bunch of magazines and newspapers that I "will get to it" but no weird stuffs or junks all the way the the ceiling as in the shows.

I am in the process of throw them away this year (hopefully).

I am on some things like computer parts. It's just a mental thing where I know I paid $500 for that thing 5 years ago and it's worth $25 now. I just can't bring myself to throw it away and it's not worth the hastle to sell. So it just goes on a shelf.

I am with other stuff but it's more of a laziness of just not taking the time & effort to toss it rather than a mental compulsion to hang on to it.

We've had to move enough the last couple years that we tried to lean down our crap...but we still have way more stuff than we need.

My dad is a moderate hoarder, I guess. He would never admit it. The house isn't cluttered to the point that it's dysfunctional, but his garage and barn-sized storage building are.

When that time eventually comes, cleaning out my parents' house and his storage building is going to be a nightmare. My mom has already apologized to me in advance.

Good point, digital hoarding, whether it be porn, music, movies, ebooks, etc., may be more widespread among forum members than physical hoarding.

On the positive side, a 1TB hard drive doesn't really take up too much physical volume.

More of a pack rat. Lots of very old electronic, electrical and automotive parts. And a whole lot of hardcover books, all in nice glass door bookcases. And some very old financial documents, like old tax returns and broker statements.
