I use to build models, mainly WWII tanks and Gundam mobile suits. We use to have an intact, painted Tiger, Panther, Cromwell, Sherman and some APC, but some dumbass stored them poorly (wasn't me, but I didn't intervene, so that's not good), and they are now in pieces.

By the way, which brand is it? I think it was Tamaya (sp?) that had the most variety and best kits.

I chose the forest/tiger camo pattern because I find the desert version so boring, as you said you basically just spray the whole thing desert mustard and you're done. I've never done proper camo masking before so it was a real trial by fire, I went from paper to scotch tape to electrical tape when masking off the whole tank, and it worked perfectly.

It's actually not Tamaya, it's Academy Models, I would have expected Tamaya as well.

Very nice!

When I used to build and paint models, I used to give them a "primer coat" of rust brown/red. Then I'd paint the expected paint scheme over it and then sand the the areas where the rust paint would show through to give it an aged look.

My eyesight is too bad now but I use to hang around the local Squadron shop a lot. Mostly interested in 1/72 WW II German tanks and planes. Built a couple of nice Tamaya Tiger & Jagdpanzers.

Is there still a local Squadron shop in Madison Hts or Ferndale Mich? I don't remember them having a warehouse in Texas.

Nice job Sabot! I used to be into military models big time when I was younger. I actually kind of miss it.

Ditto that, I did WWII ships and planes. I'd love to get back into it, just don't have the time.

I'm glad to see there's so many enthusiasts here, we should get some member photos up of everyone's creations. I collected Warhammer figures for a while, got pretty good at painting them, but it's so damned expensive I stopped.

I used to do models when I was a kid but they never turned out really good cause I was too impatient, heh. I'd like to try one again and take my time on it.

Mostly figures

I usually buy models through the local hobby shop. His distributor also owns/runs an online retail
I usually use it for browsing
Here

Edit: click the button at the top of the page to get in. I usually use the search function to look, it's easier to browse that way
Is this a decent place to order one from? There's no hobby stores around here.

I used to build models befpre college.

Looks good, although your use of silver for weathering is pretty heavy-handed. Some of the wear is excessive and in unusual places...

I haven't built any models since I was a kid but always loved it. I built a Typhoon and it was pretty cool. I also put together an AH-64 Apache and that thing was a bitch to finish.

It's an IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle). An APC with 25mm cannon.
