SVC Golden Gate 40 (all copper) I believe is equal or comparable to the SK6.

Do a google search on svc golden gate and you will find the review. Its a lot cheaper too.

Dynatron also makes a very good copper cooler, and very cheap price.

comparible how... size, cooling ability, price? I use the Alpha PAL8045 and it works wonderfully. AS far as reviews, it is slightly better then the sk-6 in terms of cooling, but if you all-ready own a sk-6 it is not really worth buying a 8045 as you would only get a few degrees less max. I know nothing about the golden gates, but I have heard good things about that new copper hsf with the heat pipes from coolermaster, so maybe that would be a good thing to look into.

sorry for the double post, but another thing about the alpha is that while it is a pain to install, it uses 80mm fans. I have a YS-tech 80mm that puts out 48.5cfm at 36.9 db. To give a comparison, the GoldenGate-40 uses a 60mm fan that puts out 40.1cfm (very respectible for a 60mm) at 48.2db (WAAAAAY too loud for me, my 46 db WBK38 was too much, and 48.2 is nearly double that as sound intensity doubles every 3 db)

There is nothing comparable to the sk6. the sk6 rules over all.

ha Ha HA

Seriously, slap a 80mm fan on that HS and it's a winner!

princejoe, the SK6 is much better then the Volcano 6 (if it's not the + version it's much, much more better). It performs just as good as the best 80mm heatsinks but is quite loud with the 7000rpm fan that allows it to do so, with a slower fan it still performs better than most other hsf's with louder fan though. It's simply the best 60mm hsf you can get.

egrimm, thanks for the information. You mentioned the sk-6 is better than volcano 6, how about compare it to the Thermaltake VOLCANO 7 Variable Fan Speed Control and Thermaltake DRAGON ORB3+. Heatsink + Dual Ball-Bearing fan? You said the it's quite loud because of the fan, I would prefer a heatsink that is kind of quiet, so if I removed the fan on the sk-6, it won't be as good, right?

to install a 80mm fan on the sk6 just turn the 80mm on a 45 degree angle. To install an 80 you have to use the small clips the sk6 came with. the 80 is a little bit shorter

go for the Millenium Glaciator! Its easily comparable to the SK-6, is quiter, cheaper, and comes with Artic silver for 17.50 straight from Millenium right here Click me.

I just got mine today and its quiter than my old vantec 6035-d and its better!

I have owned a SK-6 before. It was a great cooler, especially with the Delta screamer on it. 60MM of course. However, there is no comparison to the monster PAL8045 which is what I switched to (YS TECH 80MM). We are talking a massive amount of difference between the SK-6 and PAL8045. Like, 15-25 degrees is what im experiencing. Either way though, they were both adaquete for my requirements...the PAL8045 just expands my options a lil further in terms of overclocking.

princejoe, the SK6 should still be quite a bit better than a Volcano7, plus the reviews of the Volcano7 are very conflicting: some say it's good, some say it's bad. Given my experience with ThermalTake products I think it would be decent, but NOT an oc hsf.
I've owned a DragonOrb3+ myself, and while it performed well (although not as well as some reviewa said, and they placed behind the SK6, which means that it's surely worse, but still okay) it was VERY noisy, the fan on it is a 7000rpm Delta Screamer copy, and Anands september heatsink round-up said it was louder than that! A final thing about the DO3 is that it's got a very tight install, while it's nice it uses a 6 "hands" on the socket, it's hard to get on (if your hand slips it'll be quite easy to crush the core) and it's very heavy.

You cannot use a heatsink without a fan on the faster cpus, even though it's a good sink the cpu makes so much heat that need to get away fast and to do that you need a fan. There's quite a few people who have replaced the Delta Screamer on the SK6 with a slower fan and still get good results, you could try that.
