Haha. No. You can find quite a few that age or older in the, say, $5k - $10k range.

Edit: and I should add that, if you're an acoustic player, nothing has the sound of a vintage Martin. They just can't get those woods anymore. I own a '74 D18 and would love to have a 60's or earlier D28... but for $100k it would have to have been owned by Clapton or something.

exactly. The rosewood used on the older ones AGE amazingly and have a warmth you just cant find elsewhere.

That rosewood is basically extinct. The really old trees are almost all gone in that part of the amazon.

Main reason why I'd love a 28. The 18s are sitka spruce on mahogany. Nothing wrong with that at all, but... rosewood.

"compensated Mammouth ivory sadlle (10000 years old and impossible to find now in the USA)"

Huh? From an actual mammoth?

I have never heard of that, but I can't imagine it would make $90+k difference to any guitar player I know. Bone is bone. Modern saddles on lesser guitars are often high-impact polymers, but bone is harder and longer lasting, and delivers the string resonance through to the bridge and top with greater clarity. Maybe there is _something_ better about old bone, I don't know, but I do know it doesn't make that guitar worth $100k.

My dad traded his 60's D28 for a Gibson SG when he was younger. He claims to still regret that 50 years later.

I am not sure why this particular one is so expensive though.

In all seriousness I would really be sceptical about this, maybe it is a scam looking to pay out somewhere down the line. Maybe not though I have seen people spend more money than that on way stupider things.

I've been thinking about learning to play guitar. Think something like that would be a good guitar to start with?

Well it shows other ones right below it at 45k and 65k at the moment. So I'm guessing it is worth what everyone is bidding.

Absolutely, but only as a beater. If you want to play, really play, seek out a vintage 1959 Les Paul. Then you'll only be playing guitar

I actually have a few guitars. An Ibanez acoustic that actually sounds and plays pretty good and holds a tune well. I also have a couple of my Dad's electric guitars, a 1970s Gibson and a Fender JagStang (my Dad loved Kurt Cobain).

I think flying Vs are the next big thing. Get a samick flying V. It will appreciate as well.

edit just read your post. Nice guitars.

I still prefer to play a inexpensive classical guitar these days since I can control volume easily and not use any picks.

Because someone will pay that much for it. Period.

I guess this. A newly made classical concert guitar is somewhere between $15-20K and I consider that already rather pricy.

But $99K is nothing compared to a Stradivarius ofc. Will have to see what this guitar goes for 300 years from now.

I don't know what's up but it makes no sense. The condition of the instrument is not that great, and it shows signs of some potentially inexpert repair work around the pick guard and the bridge. You can readily find many examples of the same year and materials in better shape for less than $10k. So something is way off.

Maybe, it is a special year?

This is also a very limited run with pearl inlay and the best wood they can get, in mint condition. The '64 D-28, to my knowledge, was just as mass produced as the rest of the D-28s. It might be the best year or have some special significance. Hell, it could just be that "perfect year / model" that players dream about.
