any ideas how i can rotate an image around the z axis to create a gif

am a total noob when it comes to image editing so need so help here folks.

I have an image file. I want to create a gif of it rotating about itself with the axis in the center. i think its the z axis.

Attached image should give you an idea of what I am trying to accomplish.

Is there any software which can help me do this easily or do I need professional help?

Also this is just a random image. I actually need it done for a different one and prolly just for one. prolly wont need it too often.

That's an easy task. What you are describing is called a horizontal flip. Then all you need do is a SAVE AS to make it a GIF. This can all be done with the excellent photo/image editor, IRFANVIEW. It is free and very powerful.

thansk for the reply. yeah I do have irfan view but does the horizontal flip let you specify degrees? The animation should look like its rotating so the base image and a horizontaly flipped image wouldnt make a great gif.

Anyways will check out what you just suggested.

UPDATE: just flips it horizontal as I suspected. wont help much with the animation part. Thanks though.

Will give you step by step how to do it .. You may need a small special purpose
program, which may have a small fee, depending on it's features & which one you select.

It would be simple to do that in software (eg, matlab). You could also use a 3D rendering app (eg, blender, its all GUI based and *free*) to stick that image on a plane then rotate the plane.

Another thing to remember - GIF format will only allow 256 colors. OK for line graphics, etc., but not photos.

However, if you not too specific as to the
exact program name, it is hard to find them.

For ex: matlab or blender .. they will not
bring up a very direct link to the proper site

Or at least they did not for me.

yeah i guess i need a 3d rendering program to get the individual images before I can assemble it for a gif.

am looking into those right now.

OK ... found blender ... now I just have to figure out how to use it.

lol. same problem. one hour of messing around with it and still have no clue.

You are really getting into a very complex field - what you have proposed is the ability to rotate a planar image incrementally by degree. In effect, that involves the principles of animation.

Did you even use my link? I went to google and typed the terms i gave you (blender, matlab) and *both* were the first hit. What version of google are you using?

Blender has a pretty shallow learning curve, but once you learn its easy to do stuff. I just made your movie in a couple minutes. I made a rotating blue plane within a frame of walls and a floor. Added a light and viola! Here is a link:

No I did not click on your link as the way it was named, it seemed to suggest it would go to Google and
not to the program we were looking for. But I did find and download Blender 2.45 ... one of these days
I will fiddle around with it and try to get it to do some simple animation. I know animatingt is a complex field.

A word of caution, blender has a very shallow learning curve (the real meaning of shallow learning curve is *hard* to learn). I only use it to do stupid animations like the one in the link. Apparently, it can do *a lot* more, but its really tough to figure out how to make it work. It is really powerful though. Have fun with it. Honestly, i only turned to blender because matlab has a *shitty* lighting model.
