Any laptop with like specs+price that is better than Acer TimelineX?

looking for a new laptop

researching right now, best option seems to be

Acer Aspire TimelineX AS3820T-5851 Notebook - Intel Core i3-350M,  13.3" HD WXGA, 4GB DDR3, 320GB HDD, Wireless BGN, Gb LAN, Webcam,  Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

650 canadian (i cant find any other stores that carry this laptop)

VERY important, this is suppose to be 3lb and 8hour battery and 13.3"

2 things i really want a matte screen, but they seem nonexistant on laptops anymore and a higher res screen (my previous laptop was 14.1" @ 1440x990 from FOUR years ago, it's stupid how we're stuck with such lowres screens now)

Acer is not a 13" laptop, it's 11.6". And to answer your question, in short NO. Acer is a very good machine for the money. There is Asus UL20FT that will be coming out shortly with more or less the same specs, but 12.1" screen, same resolution, and only 2GB of ram by default at about the same price. And there is Lenovo U160, but it insanely more expensive at $1K+. Get Acer if you want 11.6" screen, get Asus if you want 12.1" screen.

Depending on what you are using your notebook for you can also look into ASUS UL30JT. The only matte screen i know of below $1000USD price is Acer Travelmate 8371, but it has previous gen cpu. TimelineX 3820T is actually closer to 4lbs (3.97lb). .

I'm guessing more options may become available next month in time for "back to school" sales. The UM versions of the new CPUs have been rare, but I'm hoping more become available. The Acer Timeline X does not use a UM chip, so IMO the battery life is actually not as good as it could be, plus the weight is about half pound heavier than the older CULV model in addition to lesser battery life - with the tradeoff of much better CPU performance.

I'm still hoping for an under 3.5 pound 720UM or something like that, with terrific battery life and reasonable cost.

AFAIK 1830t comes with either i3-330UM or i5-430UM. Both are UM models. Asus UL20FT only comes with i3-330UM as the best option. Also UM model.

i think the non ULV timelineXs are all 8 hours battery life, so at this point, i dont care about ULV models unless they reduce the battery size (thus weight) for the same amount of battery life in the regular timelineXs

also, i doubt they'll have it before school starts, i mean, there's 2 places in canada to get this laptop, NCIX and canadacomputers, and they only offer the integrated gfx chip instead of the discrete video card option even though it's been out (think this is true for US too)

The TDP difference is 18W versus 35W. Of course in real world usage the 35W chip probably idles pretty low.

I'm considering the Acer TimelineX 3820 as well atm, I don't really like the gap between the screen and the PC though

I am a proud owner of 2 acer timeline series, the 14" and the . It comes in 3 types

• 13.3” - 1.6kg - 322 x 228 x 23.4 mm
• 14” - 1.9kg - 338.4 x 240 x 24 mm
• 15.6” - 2.4kg - 380 x 259 x 24.8 mm

All of them will give you 8 hours approx battery life.

the only other comparable laptop which is better built than this is the hp dmt4. battery life around 7 hours- as thin and as light, but better quality parts and i5 processor. I dont have time to post a link.

A refurbished Latitude e4310 might cut it, it has a matte screen. Around 700.
