Greetings. You guys are smart. Anyways, I am going to build a computer this week. Here's my list of components to buy...

AMD 1800+ TB B and Retail Fan
Soltek 75FRN2-L
2x256 PC2700 DDR Infineon
WD 80gb 8mb HD
Generic Floppy (from previous comp)
LiteOn 16x DVD
Ricoh 4x4x24x CDRW (from previous comp)
350W Enermax PS
Video Card - Still don't know what to buy...probably a used ti4200...
Old Case (from previous comp)
MS Multimedia KB & Optical Mouse

How does it look? Highly doubltful I will OC. How does it's upgrade path look? Down the line, when I finally do want to upgrade this comp, I plan to buy a 2800+-3200+, whatever the Soltek can handle, and add a new video card. I imagine that the rest of the components wouldn't need an upgrade when that time comes. Smart thinking? You tell me.

Also, is there anything else you would change without raising the price too high or anything else I should consider before taking the plunge.

Thanks.

i say get DDR 400. the 3200+ and above use the 400MHz FSB, so i recommend getting DDR400
other than that it looks ok to me

That comment got me thinking, will I lose any performance (overall or dual ddr) if I use DDR 333 or 400 with a processor that is only 266 FSB? Hope not...

I thought the soltek only supports up to 333 FSB. If that's correct, why should I bother buying ddr400?

Thanks.

Truth be told, these days the mobo chipsets change so often it really isn't unreasonable to expect to have to replace the motherboard when you upgrade your chip. I know this is not going to sound good to you, but motherboards are cheaper these days than they used to be. Why not get the fastest DDR so at least you won't have to buy RAM along with that new CPU/mobo a year down the road? DDR is cheap now.

I would go with a 2100+ for now, and one stick of 512MB, PC2700 RAM, for better upgrading options on the future. Also, I would spring for the extra $40 and get a Lite-On 52x24x52x CD-RW from Newegg.com

Other than that, looks good

I recommend that you get 2 sticks of 512MB PC2700. PC3200 if it doesn't cost too much more.

512 is pretty much the prime amount of RAM right now, but it always helps to have more, and right now that kind of RAM doesn't cost much.
