Do you play the lottery ? Do you get quick pick or pick your own numbers? If you pick your own numbers are they the first numbers that come to mind? Do you have more wins with quick pick or pick your own?

I play the lottery. I always get quick picks. I never win. I'm homeless now. It's all your fault!

I only play when I'm drunk enough to tell myself I can win.... Which is maybe twice a year.

I buy $5 worth of Megamillions every couple of weeks. I've won $800 in the last year, so I'm ahead of the game so far

If I ever play, it's always quickpick. If I had a set of numbers I played and that set won on a week I didn't play, I'd shoot myself.

I don't need to play the lottery (I'm totes loaded). But, when I do, I choose quick pick.

I am not sure what the win ratio is for quick pick v. manual though. If only there was a way to search for some like this, on some sort of world wide web,...

The only lottery strategy I ever heard that makes any sense is if the game has numbers above 31, then choose some/all numbers above 31.

So many people use birthdays for their numbers that if you were fortunate enough to win, you likely would be sharing the prize with fewer other players. But it won't increase your odds of winning.

That said, I don't play the lottery.

If you play $5 a week for 30 years, that's almost $8,000 spent. Let's say you are lucky enough to win 5% back (which is probably silly, since almost all small winners just buy more tickets with the winnings). That means you are out $7400 over 30 years after adjusting for the 5% winnings.

That same $5 a week invested at a modest 5% for 30 years gets you almost $18,000. A difference of $25,000.

There are people who play the lottery and also can operate computers? Who knew.

I always thought that the lottery is just a tax on the stupid.

I am absolutely in the office pool. Which makes the most sense. You get 30+ players, and you are in for minimal cost. The pool, should it win, even split 30 times... is enough to feel damn good.

Now do that with coffee purchases.

Same here but never won over $10. I am ahead of the game though because our state has a lottery scholarship. Three kids means 12 years of college @ $4,000/yr to rake in $48,000.

Keep buying those lottery tickets poor people.

Plus, do you really want to work in the office after everyone else won? Between not giving a fuck or straight up quitting I'm sure that place would be in a world of hurt.

I have never understood all the hate for the lottery. If you play, the outcome is either you win or you don't....50/50 odds seem pretty good to me.

I invest a small amount of money in the stock market. Its like the lottery, except the odds are generally much much much much higher.

i play occasionally. someone has to win. plus our lottery proceeds go to helping the elderly, so i think of it as a small donation to them.

Did for a year, won nothing, not even a free ticket. Got discouraged and tired of giving the gubment more money.

Hell no. I don't go to casinos either. Pisses me off handing some stranger my money, wishing upon a lucky star, and getting hosed.

So... if you buy a scratch ticket, and someone walks up to you and shows you a losing ticket and an unscratched ticket, do you trade unscratched tickets with them?

No, but when I do my weekly grocery shopping, if I have a few singles, I get a couple of scratch off games. Only win a buck or 5 every once in a while.

Is there some theory that the tickets around a losing ticket have a higher chance of winning? That sounds like coin flip logic to me.

I buy a scratch off about once a year.
I was surprised the last time I bought one and I saw $30 scratch offs.

It is just another form of entertainment. I can daydream of winning big and retiring to some island and doing everything I want. People may look down on it but people look down on adults playing video games or buying huge televisions or subscribing to streaming music, etc. Whatever keeps you entertained is your own business. If you want to spend money that you earned, tell everyone to mind their own business.
