Do you play the lottery ? Do you get quick pick or pick your own numbers? If you pick your own numbers are they the first numbers that come to mind? Do you have more wins with quick pick or pick your own?
The only lottery strategy I ever heard that makes any sense is if the game has numbers above 31, then choose some/all numbers above 31.
So many people use birthdays for their numbers that if you were fortunate enough to win, you likely would be sharing the prize with fewer other players. But it won't increase your odds of winning.
That said, I don't play the lottery.
If you play $5 a week for 30 years, that's almost $8,000 spent. Let's say you are lucky enough to win 5% back (which is probably silly, since almost all small winners just buy more tickets with the winnings). That means you are out $7400 over 30 years after adjusting for the 5% winnings.
That same $5 a week invested at a modest 5% for 30 years gets you almost $18,000. A difference of $25,000.
I buy $5 worth of Megamillions every couple of weeks. I've won $800 in the last year, so I'm ahead of the game so far
I am absolutely in the office pool. Which makes the most sense. You get 30+ players, and you are in for minimal cost. The pool, should it win, even split 30 times... is enough to feel damn good.
So... if you buy a scratch ticket, and someone walks up to you and shows you a losing ticket and an unscratched ticket, do you trade unscratched tickets with them?
