any more games you play as a sniper?

I might've asked this before, but maybe there are new opinions here...

thing is, I'm getting "old" and don't enjoy fast paced FPSs anymore. I like planning, sneaking, efficiently killing enemies with minimal effort.
I enjoyed Sniper : Ghost Warrior 1 & 2 (even though they were very consolized), I played both Borderlands as a sniper, I used sniper weapons in all Mass Effect games and in Deus Ex:HR.
i didn't play any of the Sniper Elite games, they seemed too "arcadey" to me.

update:
add to the list some top-down games like Fallout Tactics and Wasteland 2 in which all my characters had long range shooting.
also played Fallout 3 and NV, with sniper rifles (more in NV if i remember correctly).
i will play the new XCOM eventually, when i have enough time for it.

are there any other single player games i might enjoy playing as a sniper?

For absurd yet satisfying realism, there's always ArmA.

Lots of great sniper missions and specifically user created sniper missions. But obviously be prepared for one of the most realistic takes on gunplay in a game today.

Arma 3 fits your request perfectly. It is my go-to game when I want slower paced multiplayer.

Sniping at 800-1300m is glorious.

There is a lot of mods (and mods of mods) so it might be a little overwhelming at first trying to decide what to play.

Not sure what you consider as "arcade-y" but the Sniper Elite games have difficulty settings that add in realism (wind, bullet drop, etc.) if I recall correctly. I played V2 and found it to be very fun.

Yah, that was pretty curious. I thought they paid a lot more attention to ballistics at the higher settings than most any game.

Yeah, Sniper Elite is awesome. With difficulty set to realistic or whatever, you have to account for all environmental effects to get a hit on a target. No way would I classify it as arcade-y.

Battlefield 4 offers some excellent sniper maps but you have to make sure you play on a server that's not administrated by sniper-hating assholes who kick/ban you just because you're not hopping around mindlessly spraying gunfire and explosives like they do.

I still think that the first 3/4 of crysis is one of the best stealth/sniping sandbox games ever made.

I could play that game up until the alien crap over and over again.

Crysis with the Tactical Expansion mod is pretty darn fun for snipers. The mod makes AI very aware (especially the snipers), and most sniper rifles give one-shot kills to both yourself and your enemy.

It also implements more realistic bullet-drop, better scopes, and introduces several new sniper rifles to the game.

I spent a lot of time prone, crawling through the grass with this mod.

EDIT: I also enjoy playing S.T.A.L.K.E.R. as a sniper. Use the Complete Mod so you can outfit yourself with some sniper rifles / ammo right off the bat.

But as others noted - - if straight up realistic sniper is your thing, ArmA III is definitely the game.

Another vote for Sniper Elite v2. I haven't played the others but had a ton of fun with v2.

I've never really gotten into Sniper Elite much. Sniper games are only fun to me if they're sandbox - where you can approach targets from any vantage you choose at any time you choose.

I had a lot more fun playing co-op as a sniper in FarCry4 than I did with my time playing Sniper Elite. Working with a friend who could close in to objectives and use stealth, while I set up way outside the outposts. The biggest accomplishment was taking out entire outposts without ever being noticed.

The far cry series was pretty good, and had some sniping. FC2 also had roadside bombs that you could plant as traps and ambush a weapons caravan. FC3 had a lot more guns and sniping with the bow is very satisfying. Dead island/DI riptide had some good sniper action too, I found an absurdly high level sniper rifle on my second playthrough and I can easily pop all but the largest enemies heads off in 1 hit.

I havent played sniper elite, but ive played the zombie variant and can say with much confidence that the sniping is very very good. ALso check out battlefield BC2, theres realistic bullet drop, changable scopes, many different sniper rifles to choose from, and the mil dots on the scope actually work.

Op mentioned Fallout tactics, and snipers, i know that was Wasteland 2 was "flawed" set 2-3 guys up sniper and one BAIT, have him draw enemies and they will just smoke um (snipers).

But 1 more vote for Sniper elite, love this set of games and hate to see 4 is delayed. Recently (just last weekend) played through 2 and 3 in hard mode and even after 5-6 times I love it.

Arma2/3 or Sniper Elite games are the obvious choices. Sniper Elite has a few versions now and they were all fun. But you should also check out the Hidden & Dangerous games if you don't mind playing something a bit older. Also Fallout 4 is an action game but you can play that as a sniper too, to some extent, and I really like it.

If you like the slower paced and more challenging style of shooters, it is also worth trying SWAT 4 and the expansion. It is a tactical police swat team game where you have to lead your small squad into barricaded drug dens, factories, pedophiles homes etc, and it is quite realistic. One bullet can kill you and bad guys can be hiding anywhere so you have to go slowly and carefully, and there are unique tools like pepper spray, opti wand which is a camera that can look under doors or around corners, and there is a door wedge too which can seal a door and allow you to block off an area so you can sweep from another area etc.. It can be a bit tedious in some ways because depending on the difficulty you choose, you are not allowed to shoot the bad guys without shouting for them to surrender first. And the problem is that the bad guys don't have very realistic animations so they can pretend to put their hands up to trick you, and then in 1 second can shoot you in the face with an AK47 from across the room. But if you don't mind some quicksave/reload dance and want the strategy and tactics and careful play of a game like that, it is worth trying!

Also, the Rainbow Six series (the old ones mainly) are all about hardcore sniping. The third one was especially interesting because you could open doors by scrolling the mouse wheel and the door would open bit by bit, so you could open it slightly and peak through and snipe people if necessary. It got simplified into an action shooter in more recent times although there is still some chance of sniping in that, but the older games are probably more what you are looking for.

The SWAT games have no "sniping" to speak of. Firefights and some shoot-outs, and precise gunplay, but nothing most people would consider sniping.

Same with Rainbow Six, although there are a few points where you can setup a sniper at longer ranges with a rifle, but the maps are all quite confined and opportunities for sniping are confined to a few choke points at a handful of points.

Wonderful games, but I couldn't recommend them for their sniping features.

They both have sniping. There are long range scoped rifles you can use to shoot people from far away while your team advance. That is sniping. And many of the levels are big enough to make use of it. Just because it isn't done from a mile away doesn't mean it isn't sniping. Also the OP says he wants slower paced FPS's with planning and sneaking which is exactly what those games are like.
