Any New Tablet Hardware Soon?

So, I follow phones pretty thoroughly but when it comes to tablets I am at a loss with current tech. Here is my situation... I had a 2013 Nexus 7 and I love it, but I would prefer a tad bigger possibly. However, as of yesterday it died and it won't turn on or take a charge. Normally I never buy protection plans, but I did when I bought this thankfully. So Asurion is going to give me a gift card for the purchase price for Office Depot.

Now, I need to determine to buy now or wait till later. I see the Nexus 9 is out, but it looks like it is 6 months old and hasn't come down... 399 seems a bit high for 16GB? However, I really don't see crap out there currently for android tablets that isn't either a cheapo POS or old tech? I know mobile hardware has slowed down some recently, but are we really on a cycle of no newer hardware until 2016? I don't see anything in the pipelines off hand? Or am I missing some devices?

So far I am leaning Nexus 9, but I dunno... I feel that either 1. The price will drop to maybe 349 relatively soon? Or something else? I notice the Tab A came out recently, but that seems to also be more entry level with low res etc and not sure that it seems interesting at all to me.

Maybe I'm just being a cheapo not thinking 399 is good for the Nexus 9, Im just used to good deals on tablets :/ I got the HP Touchpad for the $199 clearout and the nexus 7 for 179 over a year ago which was great at the time. I'd be happy with a replacement Nexus 7, but they don't carry it anymore.

Yeah, that doesn't do much when I'm getting a office depot gift card from Asurion. I could sell it, but that would lose me more than the $20 difference.

Well the only other Android tablet I have heard positive buzz about this year is the Dell Venue 10 7000. But that is only if you want a convertible.

There's talk of Samsung releasing a Galaxy Tab S2 soon, but you'll have to be okay with Samsung's take on Android. The design and performance should be nice steps up, at least.

You're noticing one of the Android tablet world's big problems, really. There's this tremendous urge to race to the bottom in hardware, so you end up with a lot small and slow devices. Say what you will about Apple... it's at least carrying the torch for higher-end tablets.

Best Buy has the Samsung Tab Pro 8.4 for $200. KitKat only with no upgrade to Lollipop but it's still a great tablet for that price.

I've seen it listed, on one of those sites that keeps track of those things, as getting Lollipop in the 3rd quarter.

I just got a used one from Cowboom, and a Tab S 10.5 which already has Lollipop. For me Lollipop isn't a big deal although I'm probably forgetting some reason why it matters.

They are both really nice. But, except for better blacks in movies I'm not sure I like the amoled screen better. So I'm leaning towards favoring the less expensive Tab Pro.

I don't know what kind of deal would be available at Office Depot but either of these Samsungs, or a Note 2014, I would be happy with for a long time.

I doubt any new tablets could be much better, spec-wise.
