gtx260gx2 beating HD4870X2 ? Doubtfull, they'll be on par, just like gtx260 sli is on par with a single HD4870X2, untill we get to 2560*1600 of course...

As for the 55nm that should have allready been here, it was also all over the internet that the 55nm parts have been delayed till q4.

forget 280x2 - but a 55nm 260 sandwich is actually likely odds on to beat the 4870x2.

Nvidia isn't saying much about the new 280; but you know they will ramp it up as high as they can while saving money on the cheaper process and it should be way faster than the OC'd 4870/1GB

actually .. deep down, i think Nvidia is going to have a single-core 290+ "Ultra" to *also* take on the X2; with massive bandwidth, a highly OC'd selected core and 1GB superfast GDDR5 .. $549 if it matches, $599 if it beats it .. and $650 if they get lucky; i dunno where their own 260+x2 is gonna fit

Well that makes me happier....did you eaves drop on any pre-release GTX280 55nm talk while you were at Nvision?

Yes .. but they will hire a hit man if i say anything about it here

:Q

expect a surprise

hows that?

i'd say the new nvidia sandwich will cream the X2 performance-wise
-like GX2 did with 3870x2 .. it is Nvidia's honor at stake here

who says 55nm should have already been here? The might be unhappy with their first silicon .. Q4 is not far off ... Oct 1 begins q4, right?
- next month! The "buying" season.

New video cards are always on the way.

For multiple GPU cards from a design standpoint ATI's actual single board design is far better than nV's which is just a sandwich plagued with cooling issues. When a card puts out this much heat there is simply no excuse to NOT vent it outside the case!

Keep dreaming

You need to wake up
:moon:

i can smell the coffee
:sun:

Do you really think Nvidia is gonna bring out a *slower* sandwich than the x2? .. now that they have time - and on a new process
- that would be a first

The GT260 has a lot more headroom than the HD4870; remember, the 260+ is tweaked and faster; we need to see it against the 4870/1GB. Should be a piece of cake for Nvidia this time [my *prediction*]

Nvidia has far more trouble competing with the 4850 at its price/performance - that is their main issue to solve, this go around - besides retaking the performance crown [imo]

many people don't remember it... by the 8800GTS 512MB is actually v3 of the GTS.
There was a silent update for 320 and 640MB versions where they got one more bank of SP enabled in them and the models names stayed the same... the only difference is that the boxes said 96+ SP instead of 96SP (on some of the partner's boxes)
Nvidia is both working on a 55nm version, and saying it will do the same silent upgrade by enabling an additional SP bank.

The upgraded 8800GTS was only on the market for a few weeks before being replaced, i think it was literally 2 weeks if I remember right.

So that article you posted about extra SP version does not indicate that there will not be a die shrunk one following it shortly there after.

nVidia has been, for more then a year now, releasing micro updates for the GPUs every month or two... I personally like it much better then releasing something, and then holding its price for a year before something else is released.

correct . . . except this one isn't so silent
- GT260+ is the card Nvidia intends to beat the 4870/1GB; convincingly with the 55nm ver - to even beat the O/C'd 1GB 4870s we expect from AMD

all this talk of sandwiches is making me hungry
Me too >>> . . . . . :moon:...

Anyone hear anything about when the 1gb 4870s will do a real launch? Also, I've seen the ones on a few sites like ncix and directcanada, but they're a complete and total ripoff. I hope they plan to readjust their prices when they get released.

I read on The Inquirer that the nV 55nm chips are faulty or something like that.
<- noob here. So is there any truth in that?

You will come to learn that The Inquirer is not a reliable source of information.

These cards are both set to release yesterday and have already been discontinued.

Finally, a decent upgrade to my Bitchin'Fast! 3D 2000.
