I've been toying with the idea for a while; it always seemed kind of odd to eat healthy stuff all the time and then binge 1000 calories worth of booze when I go out.

But this weekend pushed me over the edge - I've throughly embarrassed myself in front of my friend's family over the weekend (drunk escapade with police escort in the end) and I will not allow this to ever repeat. Any thoughts / advice?

Nope, but i don't binge drink. I've drank so much that i know my limit, and i know when it starts turning into a good buzz to ridiculously drunk. Besides, even when i was ridiculously drunk, i'm a good drunk (or so everybody says).

If I do, it would be to save money though. I go through 2-3 bottles of wine a week.

Or 10 shots...which if done in a short enough period would turn all but the most functional alcoholics into vomit spewing babeling retards.

You don't know what he's drinking. That'd be 10 Miller Lites.

Yea man I agree. I stopped for similar reasons. I mean it doesn't make sense... eat right and watch the carbs during the day and then at night just gulp down hundreds of those suckers.. and then what do you do-- you go to sleep and it just sits in ya without being burned off.

Nothing wrong with being a cheap drunk. I wish one glass of wine or a couple of shots was all i needed.

I wish I would quit drinking while I'm at home. That's where I rack up the most of my calories, I think.

How old is the OP? 25 or younger? I think you'll find that as you get closer to 30 your desire to drink and your bodies ability to "handle" it will start to fade. At least for a lot of people. If alcohol addiction runs in your family all bets are off, but for most of us you just start to lose that itch to drink. And if you do, after three beers you start feeling the hangover come on before you even get to bed. Plus as you get older and more settled in, your weekend binging sessions at the club really start to lose their appeal.

i have a track record and family history of not being able to stop myself when I'm drinking... I've arrived at the conclusion that there is no way I can prevent myself from doing this kinda stuff if I drink at all.

Well...quit then. What is the big deal?

<----- 25 years no alcohol or reefer and at 60 years I ain't doing all that bad.

My 63yo brother lives outside of Birmingham and is a rich, bitter, lonely, periodic drunk...He is an asshat. If he had stopped drinking when I did, his 5 childern would be talking to him and bringing over the Grandkids.

A glass of good wine with fine food is all I really miss in the drinking spirits.

You're a high energy, crazy guy halik. Try living alcohol free for three months.

Hahaha wow, I'm only 22 but I'm definitely going through what you described. I still get on the chop from time to time but not nearly as often as I used to.

I'm 23 - I'm by no means alcoholic (I don't drink outside of 'going out') .... apparently can't control myself.

OP, if you really feel you have no on/off switch for booze, than you may wanna check out a couple AA meetings.

Alcoholism is defined by not how much one drinks but by the lost of control once one does start the bender.
Google periodic alcoholic and read well young man.

Once you drink, you seem to pass-out, puke or bad sh!t happens. That is an alky dude!
10~12% of the US population should never drink spirits.

I've never tried alcohol, and probably won't because it does get expensive pretty quickly, not to mention the health effects etc. Shoot, I don't even drink pop for the same reason, I'm poor and don't want to make it into a habit, health effects being secondary here as well.

I know that I won't be able to control myself drinking, my family has a history of alcoholics. I'll have a drink every so often, but never more than 3 beers in a few days(3 days I think).

Well that's the thing, i don't go batshit every time i drink ... but there are many instances where I went overboard.
